Here’s what it’s about: after a tragic accident, Jenna Gray’s only hope is to start afresh—and in a tiny, remote Welsh village it seems possible, just for a moment, that she might be able to find a new life. But her grief isn’t going to stay in the past for long… THAT IS ALL I CAN TELL YOU without spoilers. The first half of the book before the twist is exciting and I mostly enjoyed that half.To be fair, the writing is great, it's the story and charcters that dragged the book's rating down for me.There is some fantastic descriptions in this book, especially when the author descibes the crash scene and the writing never left me confused and it wasn't too basic.

Slowly, Jenna begins to glimpse the potential for happiness in her future. But her past is about to catch up with her, and the consequences will be devastating . . .” Goodreads What I Loved About It From the beginning the story pulled at my heart strings. I am not a mother but one of my biggest fears is seeing someone I love get killed in a hit-and-run. From there I became more and more interested in the book. One strange thing that I loved, as much as the storyline itself, was what Jenna started doing for a living. It’s not a huge spoiler, but I won’t reveal it. It put a huge smile on my face and made me love the book even more. A masterclass in plotting, with a killer twist. I could not put it down. It's hard to believe I Let You Go is a first novel. The pacing, plotting and twists put it up there with the finest thrillers * JoJo Moyes *The novel opens in a prologue describing a terrible accident. A mother lets go of her son Jacob’s hand, and a car strikes him with such force the boy’s body hits the windshield. The driver races away. The incident catches the public imagination because of the horror of the death of the child and the fact that the driver cannot be found. A team of Bristol Criminal Investigation Division (CID) detectives, led by Ray Stevens and younger police officer Kate Evans, are assigned to solve the crime. As they work the case, devastated young mother Jenna Gray escapes to the Welsh coast to deal with her grief. JK Rowling, who was shortlisted for the novel of the year award for Career of Evil, the third book she’s written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, sent a message of support for McDermid, declaring her “the Queen of Crime”.

The community of writers and readers at [the festival] is unlike any other in its warmth and generosity and so this means a huge amount to me,” McDermid said. “This year sees the publication of my 30th novel and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate that.” Not only I but more friends than I could have believed possible have read I Let You Go and loved it. Best book of 2015– Betty Crime novelist Val McDermid was also a winner, presented with an award for her outstanding contribution to the genre. McDermid is most noted for creating the Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series, which was adapted as the TV drama Wire in the Blood, and for her characters journalist Lindsay Gordon and the private investigator Kate Brannigan.Slowly, Jenna begins to glimpse the potential for happiness in her future. But her past is about to catch up with her, and the consequences will be devastating... This book doesn’t follow the typical recipe for stories of loss, combined with a thriller. There will come a point in the story where you will wonder what the hell is going on, asking yourself, “what did I miss?” Keep reading.

I LET YOU GO | Kirkus Reviews

Ray is pretty useless and his perspective is mostly him flirting blandly with another police officer while his poor wife looks after the kids. Neither Ray and Kate, nor Jenna and whatsisname, have any chemistry whatsoever.Slowly, the two storylines begin to merge and what is revealed projects the narrative into the stratosphere. Clare Macintosh, the author of I Let You Go, is the real deal. According to her Goodreads profile, she spent twelve years in the police force, including time in the criminal investigations unit (CID). She knows what she is writing about.

We then follow her as she settles into her new life and begins to find happiness in her newly discovered independence. Simultaneously, we follow intrepid police detectives continuing to work the hit-and-run case. A young mum walks her 5 year old son home from school, like any other day. Except that this day is different, her son lets go of her hand and is hit by a car and killed instantly. The 'side-story' of the detectives teenage son-- shows 'more' uninspiring 'men'. The author even managed to turned a 12 year old BOY into an uninspiring character.
