Description

Zīyāra ʿĀshūrāʾ (Arabic: زيارة عاشوراء) is a ziyara-text (a written text for pilgrimage) recited by Shi'a to salute Imam al-Husayn (a) and to commemorate the epic-tragic Battle of Ashura' and the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a) and his companions. This ziyara is deemed very important by Shi'a and has been narrated from Imam al-Baqir (a). Imam said, “Listen, Alqamah! After you point to Imam al-Husayn (`a) with greetings and offer the two-unit prayer, you Salih Bin Aqabah and Sayf ibn Umayrah have reported `Alqamah ibn Muhammad al-Hadrami as saying that he, once, asked Imam al-Baqir, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, to teach him a prayer with which he would pray Almighty Allah on that day (of Ashura) when he would visit Imam al-Husayn’s tomb and to teach him another prayer with which he would pray Almighty Allah on that day when he would be unable to visit the tomb and then he would point to the tomb and send greetings to Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) from his own house. The Imam said, “Listen, Alqamah! After you point to Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) with greetings and offer the two-unit prayer, you may say the Takbir statement (i.e. allahu-akbar) and then say... (the forthcoming form of Ziyarah). If you do so, you will have said the prayer that is said by the angels who visit Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him). You will be also raised one hundred million ranks to join the rank of those who were martyred with him (i.e. Imam al-Husayn) and you will be included with their group. You will, moreover, be awarded the reward of the visiting of all Prophets and Messengers as well as the reward of all the visitors of Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) since the day of his martyrdom.”

The most significant event that occurred in the month of Muharram was the Battle of Karbala, which took place in Iraq in Muharram 61 AH. May the curse (La’n) be upon those people who laid down the foundations for the oppression and wrongs done upon you, the family of the Prophet [Ahlul Bayt]. The word Ashura is derived from the word “ Asharah”, which means ten in Arabic. The Day of Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. When is Ashura 2023? One of the unparalleled merits and points of honor of ziyarah of `Ashura' is that its form is not similar to the other ordinary forms of ziyarah, which have been composed and dictated by the Holy Infallibles apparently, although nothing is issued from the immaculate hearts of these Holy Infallibles except statements proving that they have received these words from the Most High Origin. I disconnect all links with those who, in the beginning, took the first steps to take liberties with and bear hard upon you, As well as fasting the day of Ashura which is one of the most virtuous acts, there are many other beneficial deeds you can do which can earn great rewards on the blessed day.

and give me the opportunity to be with the victorious Imaam, the descendant of Muhammad (blessings and peace be on him and on his children from Allah) at the time of the final and decisive war against Allah's enemies. Peace be on you and on those souls who had gathered in your camp, in your journey. I pray and invoke Allah to keep all of you tranquil and restful, for ever; so far I am alive, this is my prayer, and till nights and days follow each other.The reporter asked, “May Allah accept me as ransom for you! Do you really promise them and guarantee for them to have that reward?” May Allah condemn and damn the people who killed you. May Allah condemn and damn the abettors who instigated and had a part in your murder. May Allah condemn and damn the family of Ziyaad and the family of Marwaan; may Allah condemn and damn the group and the tribe of Umiyyah, one and all, altogether;may Allah condemn and damn ibna Marjaanah;

Imam al-Sadiq (`a), Safwan added, said to me, “Observe this form of ziyarah and this supplication and use them whenever you visit (the Imam). Surely, I guarantee on behalf of Almighty Allah for any one who says this form of ziyarah and this supplication while visiting the holy tomb or being at a distant place that his visit will be accepted, his efforts will be praiseworthy, his greetings will reach the Imams and will never be screened from them, all his requests will be granted by Almighty Allah whatever they will be, and he will never be disappointed. Salih Bin Aqabah and Sayf ibn Umayrah have reported `Alqamah ibn Muhammad al-Hadrami as saying that he, once, asked Imam al-Baqir, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, to teach him a prayer with which he would pray Almighty Allah on that day (of Ashura) when he would visit Imam al-Husayn’s tomb and to teach him another prayer with which he would pray Almighty Allah on that day when he would be unable to visit the tomb and then he would point to the tomb and send greetings to Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) from his own house. O’ Aba ‘Abdillah! Surely I seek closeness to Allah and to His Messenger and to the Commander of the Faithful and to Fatimah and to Hasan and to you through love of you and through distancing myself from those who laid the foundations and those who built upon and carried out oppression and cruelty upon you all and upon your followers. In two phrases from the Ziyara Ashura, it has been requested from God to grant the chance to take the revenge for Imam al-Husayn (s) martyrdom, under the leadership of the triumphant leader from the Ahl al-Bayt (a) or the leader who speaks the truth. These phrases hint at the reappearance of Imam al-Mahdi (a) and his mission to take the revenge of the Battle of Karbala. The principle of Mahdawiyya is the theoretical and practical foundation of the Shi'a movement during the time of occultation. In Islam, a ziyārah ( Arabic: زیارة) is a visit to the tomb of a saint or other holy person, such as the Islamic prophet Muhammad or Imam Husayn. [2]

The Source of Ziyarat ‘Ashura` and its Authenticity

Give Sadaqah : Helping those in need around the world is one of the most virtuous deeds and doing so on this blessed day can earn great rewards, It is also a Sunnah to spend money on one’s family on the day of Ashura. Some researchers have expressed their doubts about the attribution of some phrases of Ziyara Ashura to the Infallible Ones (a). Sayyid Murtada 'Askari [7] and Muhammad Hadi Yusufi Gharawi [8] did not consider the following part transmitted from the Infallible Ones (a): "Allahumm khuss ant awwal zalim bi-l-la'n minni wa bda' bihi awwal thumm l'an al-thaniy wa l-thalith wa l-rabi', Allahumm la'n Yazid khamis wa l'an 'Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad wa bn Marjana wa 'Umar bn Sa'd wa Shimr wa Al Abi Sufyan wa Al Ziyad wa Al Marwan ila Yawm al-Qiyama" ["O Allah, assign on the foremost persecutor special curses from me, and begin with him first, and then on the second, the third, and the fourth. O Allah, curse Yazid fifthly, and curse 'Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad, the son of Marjana, 'Umar b. Sa'd, Shimr, the family of Abi Sufyan, the family of Ziyad, and the family of Marwan up to the Day of Resurrection."] They believe it did not exist in Ibn Quluwayh's Kamil al-ziyarat, where Ziyara Ashura was first mentioned. O’ Allah! Particularly curse the first tyrant, a curse from me, and begin the first curse with him and then send the curse on the second and the third and then the forth (tyrant). O’ Allah curse Yazid, the fifth (tyrant) and curse ‘Ubaydullah Ibn Ziyad and Ibn Marjanah and ‘‘Umar Ibn Sa’d and Shimr and the family of Sufyan and the family of Ziyad and the family of Marwan until the day of Judgement.
