Description

When the front wheel is pointing straight ahead, use a tape measure placed near the outer end of the rods to measure the distance from one rod to the other. When they're the same, your wheels are aligned. You're actually measuring the parallelism of the front and rear axles, but in practice that is the same thing as measuring the alignment of the front and rear wheels.

The Laser Monkey can be coupled perfectly with the Chain Monkey for precise and fast chain tension and wheel alignment in one easy step. Aligning your chain using the Laser Monkey helps to improve your motorcycle’s handling characteristics and optimise power delivery. Those who ride without their drivechain properly aligned have less control of the bike at high speeds. Then I had a small epiphany regarding the axles on the V-Strom, which like those on most other motorcycles are hollow. I googled my idea and at found at least one guy who also thought of it and made a tool for it: Quality Machine Company, Inc. - Savannah Georgia The vast majority of motorcycles use a chain to carry drive from the output of the gearbox to the rear wheel. Sure, there are shaft-driven bikes – notably BMWs – as well as belt-driven examples but the humble chain is by far the easiest and most reliable when it comes to moving torque to the rear wheel. There are various motorcycle chain tools available to help you work on your own bike chain, ranging from DIY handheld devices to heavier-duty versions aimed more at professionals. We’ve put together a list of some of the best and most useful whatever your level. Poor road conditions, hitting an object (such as a nasty pothole) and excessive tyre wear are just a few examples of how rear wheels can become misaligned, and manually adjusting this each time can be incredibly time-consuming.

Lift the laser head to point at the furthest visible point of the chain/belt towards the engine. Adjust the wheel alignment until the laser is showing at the centre point of the chain/belt. Your wheel will then be accurately aligned.

Step 3: Point the laser at the furthest visible part of the chain or belt by the engine. This will now show whether your wheel is correctly aligned.Adjusting the wheel on the swingarm is often extremely inaccurate as most swing arms are constructed using fabricated components. The Laser Monkey however ensures unrivalled accuracy, as a laser is sent directly down the centre of the chain or belt, enabling precise alignment. They are for the most part. There's some minor deviation but not much. Basically, make sure your chain is clean and in usable condition first. I dont know about the mentionned straight edge method previously mentionned, but i found an easy one with a 3' edge. I tried the long straightedge method (one guy used long flourescent light tubes), the string method ( SportRyder's Wheel Alignment Method), and the chain alignment tool method (see the MotionPro . The first two methods are an incredible pain in the rear, and with the third (alignment tool) it's too difficult to determine visually when the chain is truly aligned. Furthermore, the string and straightedge methods simply aren't practical on my bike -- and others -- because either the side stand or the center stand get in the way.
