In the 1940's, Goetze's Candy discontinued its chewing gum and dedicated manufacturing to caramel products. Today, Goetze's Candy Company makes two brands of chewy caramel: Caramel Creams®and Cow Tales®.

Enjoying Goetze’s Caramel Creams ®and Cow Tales®is a sweet way to support American-made!Goetze’s Candy was founded as The Baltimore Chewing Gum Companyin 1895, manufacturing a variety of confections in Baltimore. In the early 1900’s Goetze’s expanded to a larger facility on Monument Street and began production of chewy caramels. A century later, Caramel Creams®and Cow Tales®are still made in the same Baltimore building! The balance of the softness and chewiness is really nice, and if you dislike caramels because of the texture, you might fall in love with this product. There is really no other caramel product on the market like it, and the texture is one of the key differences between the Cow Tale and the regular caramel products that are sold by other makers. Even Bull’s Eye product is not soft and chewy like this caramel product. The Bull’s Eye does have the same cream filling in the center, but the smaller size of the candies makes them less soft and fluffy than the Cow Tale.

In addition to its signature caramel candy, the company also makes a different style of its classic caramel candy, Cow Tales. Goetze's Cow Tales were originally launched in the year 1984. [3] Cow Tales are similar to the Caramel Creams, but in the form of a long, thin cylinder of soft caramel with a cream center. [4] Cow Tales are also produced in Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, and Caramel Apple flavors. In addition, the company offers Mini Cow Tales, a bite-sized version of Vanilla Cow Tales, Goetze's number-one selling 25-cent item. [5] Original Caramel Cow Tales were introduced by Goetze's Candy Company in 1984. They are made from the same secret family recipe used to make Goetze's Caramel Creams® (a.k.a. "Bulls-Eyes"®). Cow Tales were named in correlation with "Bulls-Eyes," maintaining the cow theme used to promote Goetze's dedication to making caramel with quality ingredients, including real milk. Original Caramel Cow Tales were introduced by Goetze's Candy Company in 1984. They are made from the same secret family recipe used to make Goetze's Caramel Creams® (a.k.a. "Bulls-Eyes"). Cow Tales were named in correlation with "Bulls-Eyes," maintaining the cow theme used to promote Goetze's dedication to making caramel with quality ingredients, including real milk. The company has always tried hard to make sure that this recipe is healthy and Cow Tales are not made with high fat or fake ingredients. Most of the products in the recipe are instantly recognizable food items which can be really nice for those who are trying to watch what they eat and avoid fake and processed foods.

To keep the name from being taken literally, Goetze's used "Tales" instead of "Tails," and added the image of a cow jumping over the moon, an allusion to the "Hey Diddle Diddle" nursery rhyme. In 2016, Duke the Cow became the mascot and face of Cow Tales!
