About this deal

The blending team at brand owner Diageo also used two whiskies from closed distilleries Cambus and Pittyvaich to include in the latest blend, which additionally features “rare” whiskies from Glen Elgin, Inchgower, Glenlossie, Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie.

Two additional lost distilleries are also included in the blend – grain whisky from Cambus and single malt from Pittyvaich – alongside five ‘rare’ expressions from the existing distilleries of Cameronbridge, Clynelish, Glenkinchie, Glenlossie and Royal Lochnagar. As with the previous bottlings (which focussed on Brora and Port Ellen), the rare whisky from this lost distillery sits at the core of the blend. Exceptionally balanced with layers of creamy vanilla sweetness on the nose, rolling waves of waxy citrus, rich malt and tropical fruit flavours on the palate, and the unmistakable lingering finish of Port Ellen maritime smokiness. At the heart of this limited-edition whisky lies the Highland single malt, Glenury Royal -a ‘ghost’ distillery that shut its doors in 1985 after a long and colourful history. At the heart of this whisky lies the Highland single malt Glenury Royal, from the distillery of the same name that shut its doors in 1985.The finish is beautifully balanced, with supple notes of honeycomb, soft wood, and a gentle sweetness. These limited release of Johnnie Walker's most premium brand, The Ghost and Rare blends focus on Scotland's lost and sorely missed distilleries. Closed down in 1993 after an 18 year run, it is known as one of the shortest-lived distilleries in Scotland. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Whisky offers a unique, world-class blend of Scottish Lowland single malts with a natural cask strength of 50. Other rare whiskies in the blend include Glen Elgin, Inchgower Glenlossie, Pittyvaich and Glenkinchie, these add waves of vanilla, heather honey and dried fruits that intertwine with smooth dark chocolate and nutty layers to create a perfectly balanced experience of this irreplaceable 'ghost' whisky. A handcrafted blend using just eight of the rarest whiskies from the unparalleled Johnnie Walker reserves of maturing Scotch, at the heart of this limited edition are exceptional single malts from the “ghost” distillery of Pittyvaich, that closed in 1993 after only 18 years of life.
