About this deal

That's a long phrase and especially people who have to interact with the group daily would shorten it. I do not think I would end up enjoying The Bone Shard War, the concluding installment of The Drowning Empire trilogy, this much without doing a reread to refresh my connection with the story, world, and characters first. characters have the same debates over and over, the same scenes occur again and again in different fonts.

We saw him knowing that with careful use of words you can manipulate bone shard magic and instructions written into shards and yet, his entire arc in this book is that he couldn't do anything because of the commands written into shards. I would like to see an illustrator’s take on what an ossalen looks like… I never could quite work it out in my mind. Yet in this book I loved seeing her tender side with Ayesh, and becoming the leader of The Shardless Few I think also made her realise how complicated and hard being a leader is. The Bone Shard War, the last book in The Drowning Empire trilogy, excelled in its construct and beauty. Because after many confrontations that were just people talking in circles, I was irritated with the pattern. We are just informed it happened and I believe some of the things would have a stronger emotional impact if we read it play out. To the reader, he feels in near reach with his vulnerability laid bare and his grappling with morality. If handled correctly, I think more page count to explore the intricacies of each island and the lore would have transformed the trilogy into something more epic. Publishers really need to start including mini summaries of the key points of the previous novels in fantasy series. The book follows a predictable pattern of sail to one place, encounter villain, try to talk their way out of it, barely escape, and repeat.

So when she finally decided to let Nisong go, when she stopped to evaluate why she was trying to be Nisong and what that actually meant and that she didn’t need to be that person, I was so happy for her. in all honestly, the bone shard war simply did not have enough substance for 600+ pages, which you can tell from the sheer repetitiveness of the story and the useless subplots. In contrast to Nisong, we have Ragan who grew up as a Cloudtree Monk along with their harsh discipline. The visual of waves crashing against each other, of sea serpents and of water being shaped into a weapon just felt so cinematic. If I don’t get jittery reading a book when I know a War is going to kick off then I feel like there’s issues. All this talk of stories and history, and they were repeating it –actors on a stage putting on a slightly different rendition of the same play, night after night. I always found Ranami a little too harsh, too judgemental and not great at seeing another’s point of view, which often made me annoyed at her. The pacing was actually very slow, which made it hard for me to completely engage with the plot as I had to put the book down frequently. The Bone Shard War is the epic finale to the unmissable, action-packed and magic-laced Drowning Empire series. The book is fast-paced from the very first page as we pick up the story 2 years later as we find Lin and Jovis dealing with the aftermath.

I continued to be in awe of the bone shard magic, and loved that so many unanswered questions from book one get answers here. These are just some of the thoughts and feels but if you’re interested in regular updates of when I read this please see below! I’m a bit sad to see the series come to an end, but I can’t wait to see what else Andrea Stewart comes out with next.

Fans von tierischen Begleitern kommen hier wieder voll auf ihre Kosten ❤ Auch war der Band trotz der stolzen 700 Seiten relativ schnell durchgelesen.
