About this deal

I’ve seen the stats about the higher mortality rates among Black mothers and infants before but this really brings it home; like Kendi’s wife in “ How to Raise an Anti-Racist“, Braithwaite has serious complications around the birth of her first child which are negated and downplayed until it’s almost too late. With the youthful tone and flare in how this is written, you can really feel Cynthia's personality and attitude coming through. it’s defiantly a serious conversation, and i feel that everyone should read this book, it was entertaining but very moving and insightful! To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. She is also the founder of Make Motherhood Diverse – an online initiative that aims to ensure many more mothers see themselves reflected online – and a hugely popular influencer.

As the story progresses, Cynthia grows closer to two brothers—one white and privileged, the other black and adopted—who help her adjust to her new environment. She’s providing that safe space for a Black Caribbean British woman like me – and I’ll always be grateful. to also know that Cyn undeniably has feelings for Isaac still is heart wrenching, but it’s only natural for her to feel that way, despite the information that was made known to her. The clear cut, loving nature of her voice shines through her writing and is my favourite part about her books.

The none so subtle pointing out of white privilege throughout was, at times, mind opening and uncomfortable for me and the tackling of such an important issue, knife crime was done in a responsible and measured way with full explanation and sources of support at the end of the book. This particular extract explores her discovery and implementation of the law of attraction, a philosophy suggesting that positive thoughts bring positive results into a person's life, while negative thoughts bring negative outcomes. For 220 pages Cynthia explores the most romantic love story, I just knew something was going to blow it up but MAN, that twist at the end slapped. Being seen, feeling represented and feeling a sense of belonging are basic human needs and rights and yet there is STILL an overwhelming number of very similar offerings to expectant/new mothers.

A skilled public speaker Candice regularly gives talks and hosts panel discussions for brands, media outlets and corporate entities. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. But to keep ourselves on our toes, we have a rule that author gender is alternated, girl-boy-girl-boy, and the continents always rotated (with occasional glitches).

I’m a deeply spiritual, dream, intuition-led gal … As a woman, especially as a black woman, it’s easy for people to talk us out of that “inner voice”. This story follows Cynthia, as she comes to terms with the murder of her brother and moving away from her friends into a very white and suburban area and falls into a tricky Romeo/Juliet situation. Sometimes the novels chosen are new, often they are from the backlist and occasionally re-issued from way back. I had chosen to free her from the tyranny of a white world’s expectations about how a Black woman’s hair should be – had in another way become a form of bondage, a security blanket.

Did they understand that the power we thought could only be bestowed on us by our boss, our significant other, even our pastors, was already readily available within?Having read IANYBM I already had a feel for and liked Candice Brathwaite's writing but admittedly was a little apprehensive about how her style would feel within a fiction novel.
