In Mississippi in 1930, Robert sells his soul to a crossroads demon to become "the best blues man ever lived. Jonathan Moulton (1726–1787), an 18th-century brigadier general of the New Hampshire Militia, alleged to have sold his soul to the devil to have his boots filled with gold coins when hung by the fireplace every month. The basic story is far, far older, however, with Sanskrit and Sumerian tales of craftsmen making deals with demons for superlative skill, making this Older Than Dirt. the Demon Crowley who had been identified as Lilith's right-hand demon in the previous episode, appears to have all the powers of a Crossroad Demon as he is seen completing a deal with a mortal including the requisite kiss. So, are demon deals a thing, or is his foreshadowing of "you must never make a deal with a demon to get me" just flavor dialouge?
These acts present themselves as diabolical pacts, though there is not always certainty of an actor's authentic sanity. These types of deals are often Rash Promises, if the characters involved swear to honor their bargain without actually thinking through what they're doing.Zachariah probably intended to follow through on Adam seeing his mother again, but never intended to have Adam serve as Michael's vessel; Adam was resurrected to be bait for a trap for Dean.
