About this deal

Mel's religious parents insist she must keep the baby, whilst Sid's feminist mum pushes for a termination. The attempt to introduce a whodunnit storyline to a series that really didn’t need it, felt terribly forced and added nothing to the series as a whole.

I admire Sephy's unwavering spirit and courage and her willingness to do anything for her children, which led to her untimely demise. Tension was also built up through this, as I was trying to move at the same pace as the characters, yet I was being pulled back to where the story began, many years ago. It felt like the last remaining echo of the original story had been severed and poor Sephy never got to find her happy end. The stakes of this should have been a lot bigger, but the logic of how the characters responded to this situation ranged from passive to downright ridiculous. The book, titled Endgame, is the sixth novel in the series, which also includes three other novellas.

So without me jabbering on any longer, if you're a fan of the Noughts and Crosses series, I suggest you read Crossfire and Endgame (Endgame follows directly on from Crossfire). However, even though I had no idea about the pre-existing books nor their plot points, I dived in regardless, I mean you have to live a little dangerously right? Endgame , the breathtaking conclusion to the series, influenced by the unprecedented global events of recent years, is full of twists and turns and emotions, with its incredible characters reaching a dramatic conclusions to their stories. Newcomers to Noughts and Crosses would be advised to start at the beginning as Endgame draws heavily on what has come before, not least the murder of gangster Dan Jeavons and the kidnapping of Troy and Libby. Endgame was a highly intense and emotional book that involved a lot of gun violence, murder, grief, and kidnapping.

Over the years, Tobey has attributed his achievements to hard work and his purpose as doing good in the world, when really, it was down to his criminal involvement in being the mastermind behind a notorious gang. As for the rest of the story, I have three contentions: firstly, I did not like the endings of the other characters, namely the second generation ones; secondly, it was a bit predictable, I guessed one of the plot twists from the beginning; thirdly, I must be among the minority to express the fact that I did not enjoy the close reference to current political and real world events. These narrators tie all the books together and even a short story, but again this felt very rushed for a finale. Her work has appeared on screen, with Pig-Heart Boy, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, being adapted into a BAFTA-award-winning TV serial. Either way, these books will always have a place in my heart, and I will be forever recommending them. It also has integrated news articles, that are both relevant to the story and current events that are playing out in society today; and an unknown voice taking on some chapters. What I do love most about Endgame is each character has their own story to tell that evenly winds in well with one another, it isn’t solely centred around one character and their journey.
