About this deal

You must place cubes of those colours onto the card and once they are all full, the card is considered built. Your play area in front of you will have your Empire card that you build off of and a Construction and Draft area for Development cards as you gain them. Then the roles reverse… and any cards not yet taken remain on the selection areas until a player chooses that area.

These can be a 1x, 2x, or 3x multiplier on a token or card type or they can be just straight points. Some will come and go while others will stick around offering you new pursuits through the campaign tied into the campaign’s story. As soon as a card is fully resourced it is built and can be used immediately for the rest of the income round. You might discover aliens before Atlantis, or you might find an ancient pirate treasure with the help of tanks and bomber jets. The same process of cube placing continues before the green production phase, then the yellow and finally the blue.

And a slightly bloated campaign game of It’s a Wonderful World is still more fun than many other games. First of all, I need to preface this by going back to my recent review of White Hat, where I complained that game’s solo mode feels nothing like the multiplayer experience. There is a huge deck of cards, baggies containing six different coloured cubes, a bag of orange general chits and a bag of blue financier tokens. I also try and recycle enough to get a building up before production on the first round, especially if it produces materials. This isn’t a legacy game, but rather a series of campaigns that build on one another and can be reset to play again and again.

It’s weightier, but it skips that thing that annoyed me about 7 Wonders, which is that it was very difficult to teach because the chaining rules were non-obvious to players who were inexperienced with tech trees. We accidentally memed on this game because I couldn’t remember the word “financier”, and now I laugh every time I play it.At the same time, you will have to balance when to complete production cards versus scoring opportunities—too few production cards and you may not have enough resources to complete your cards, but too many and you may not have enough points to win. While you can’t use those on future projects, you can turn five resources into kristallium (red), the wild resource. It is a card game for 1-5 players that will have each player trying to build their own little empire. Competing for the supremacy bonuses feels like the most interactive part of the game, but that it is not as engaging as the war mechanics found in 7 Wonders.
