The acting is quite good and it's definitely one of the more realistic (and positive) portrayals of this sort of relationship. I'm a total sucker for characters that go from "emotional brick wall" to "jello" over the course of a film or show. While, yes this can be ‘hot’ with the right type of lover, there is a certain type of woman who seems to think that good sex can only happen with constant eye contact. A gay Chinese-American and her traditionalist mother are reluctant to go public with secret loves that clash against cultural expectations. Their friends are trying to throw them a memorable bachelorette party but there seems to be one major problem ruining everyone's good time.

This little gem was sadly cancelled after only one season, but they managed to make something great while they had the time. There’s a bit of representation in older generations, but I think for the teens who are watching it who identify with these characters, they will be able to feel comfort and hopefully acceptance at the end of the show. For all of the 90s kids, the show offers a syrupy dose of nostalgia with its punchy Nirvana references and Tamagotchi pets – and of course, a timeless punch of teen angst. I had mixed feelings about it at first but it ended up winning me over with its intensity and the wholly captivating way it unfolds. However there are aspects of being a lesbian — problems that arise — that are not common to heterosexual relationships and can really suck.If only the world was as “open-minded” as us… Alas, matters of sexual identity and equal love, often cause so much friction in the rest of the world.
