In case you don’t follow me on social media, Marriage For One is a standalone Contemporary Romance, and it’s a slow burn–just like all my other books. Even if you know you have no chance of stopping her from making a mistake, you have to bow out because IT IS NOT YOUR PLACE TO MAKE THE DECISION FOR HER. He wasn’t what I’d had in mind or even what I’d wanted for myself, but he was perfect and already mine. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back (or, if that link doesn't work, here's a cache of the original) and it changed how I understand story. Rose was a total bitch to Jack at this point, despite learning how he had done everything in his power to protect her from others who wanted to hurt her and jack her around.

Well he is Jack Hawthorne the adorable and the cutest grumpy man with a permanent frown on this face so that wouldn't take much to convince Rose into this arrangement. you got to see more of Rose too— how kind and caring, how selfless and giving, how hardworking and loving she is.

Rose had a meltdown, treating Jack like shit and walking away from him even though he let her know how he had been taken with her from the very first sight of her, and he explained how he had done everything he could in his power to protect her from so many others willing to hurt her. I leaned closer and my lips got dangerously close to her neck, so much so that I got more intimate with her smell. You'd think a guy who looked like him-a bit cold maybe, but still striking and very unattainable-would only ask the love of his life to marry him, right?

Completely stupid premise considering if he had just told Rose the truth from the beginning she'd have broken up with the money stealing douche, and Jack and Rose could have tried dating and getting to know each other like normal people do. Paired with the detailed descriptions of everyday tasks and simple events, and if you’re not feeling the story it will go off the rails in a big way. However, considering my history with this author (might’ve read two and DNF-ed one of her books and they were all meh/bleh), this book was a lot more readable for me. The whole situation with the marriage was pretty ridiculous but damn don’t we all wish to just get it all at once? So yeah, one star and I wish I had stopped when I first got impatient about the author's information withholding.I swear he may look grumpy all the time with his permanent frown on his face but he is the sweetest and adorable man atleast when it comes to Rose you know. I am so happy for her that she found Jack because all her life she thought she had no one by her side, no family.
