About this deal

It’s an angst-driven high school based romance with all the drama of Cruel Intentions and all the melodrama of an after school special. At the beginning we see Bailey and Chase, who go to two different colleges and their hockey teams are rivals. I really love the characters, and, once again, enjoyed her style of writing and author voice but it was too long or not enough of the subplots threaded through. Sports sociologists will look to this book for soccer material and also for the author's fresh conceptualization of sports culture. Hoping that Derek (only one of Bailey's brothers that played a big part in the story) gets his own book so i can like him more.

Choose from Termly resources news for Teachers and Librarians or Holiday reading news for Young Readers and their families. I'm obsessed because from page one, Avery's writing completely transfixed me, I was so hook-line-and-sinker in the story and characters and their world. It is a novel which touches on many important subjects – injustice and poverty, friendship and dreams, relationships between different countries, corporate business and people power.Bailey is insecure because the book opens with her getting dumped, and she has some issues from being in a terrible relationship. I did read the Sample and was fascinated by the H being the victim of abuse, enough so that I decided to try it. The heroine starts dating the hero, a hockey player from her school rival’s team (which her brother and ex both play for her school’s team).

Bailey, they really do have such chemistry and a connection built on friendship first (I LOVED this) reading about her healing from a seriously toxic ex and learning to trust again with Chase. I know from the text that she’s good at soccer and fairly good at shutting out Thomas’ negging but that’s about it. Women don’t always have orgasms or struggle to have them, and it would have been so amazing to see this in a book. It worked for me because Thomas was already changing and struggling against the person his father was shaping him up to be even before the dark moment. My brother hates him, my friends don't approve, and I'm being forced to choose between my loyalties and my heart.Even Thomas, with all his struggle to keep his father happy, seems to be improbably smart and talented at everything. SLIGHT SPOILIES] a pregnancy that isn’t talked about beyond that scene, the whole house/money situation, any of the plot lines surrounding her writing for the school publication, her giant mysterious injury (which literally isn’t actually brought up until the last 5% of the book and it’s done in such a ‘oh yeah this is what happened’ sort of way). This one had the right amount; I still went through all the feels but it didn't bottom my stomach out and keep it that way for half the book which was a very welcome positive. Sociologists with more general interests in culture and institutional analysis might also find it useful and informative as a case study. She could have taken out so much of them in their happy phase (especially since the break up is late and doesn’t last long) and focused more on developing the conflict. It just felt like “oh we need some drama, let’s just make it so that everyone is on skates and has an excuse to hit each other.

Bailey is smart, independent and a great person who isn’t afraid of hard work to achieve her dreams.
