Darkus' dad has forbidden them to investigate any further – and disgusting crooks Humphrey and Pickering are out of prison. The story also provides some great development for Novak, gradually revealing her surprising history as she spies on her mother. G. Leonard’s book Beetle Boywas one of the liveliest, most original and enjoyable debuts of 2016, and the follow up will have fans waving their (figurative) feelers around in glee.These factual components fit so well with the adventure and charm of the story, no doubt making some of the impossible scenarios seem believable to the younger readers. Ranged against her are our hero Darkus and his friends Virginia and Bertolt, together with their special allies – bugs, beetles and assorted insects. Massive skeletons and pools of tar are littered around, and a towering aqueduct pouring down tar dominates the area. Her only directly damaging attack, Acid Shot, serves as a shotgun-style attack and can inflict incredible damage if the player is hit by multiple acid balls at once.

If they fail, she'll mass an army of giant Frankenstein beetles - and the planet will never be the same again. However, this is a story about courage and loyalty and fighting for what is right, so when Barty disappears the three adventurous children accompanied by Uncle Max Cuttle, Bertolt’s starstruck mother, Calista, and a suitcase full of beetles travel to Los Angeles to disrupt Lucretia’s dastardly plans.
