About this deal

Quote from: Glebe on November 14, 2023, 04:29:23 PMYeah IAP2 is a little scrappy but there are still gems in there; think we can all agree that Alan's first encounter with Dan in particular is a Partridge greatest hits moment, and 'Bono' is particularly "faine"! Once the star and lead presenter of Mid Morning Matters on North Norfolk Digital and This Time on BBC1, he is now not those things, but is perfectly happy and comfortably off. Inspired by Alan Bennett, James Baldwin, and Stan Barstow, he crafts compelling stories that resonate deeply.

Big Beacon is the third memoir from Alan Partridge, written by Steve Coogan with longstanding collaborators Neil and Rob Gibbons. Instead it ambles along on an unsatisfying middle ground, with awkward attempts to subvert big screen clichés, but without seeming exactly sure what those are. I suppose it could work in a Duncan Thickett kind of way, not sure how that could be stretched beyond 10 or 15 minutes though. As mentioned in the headline, it's still funny, but Alan over-explaining double entendres, or saying something inappropriate, then being told by an assistant that it's inappropriate, and him responding with something more inappropriate, have become well-worn tropes.

I was forced to hold the phone to me ear because of pocket crumb induced speaker damage and this made the ecperience even more intimate—like I was having a nearly 60 hours conversation with the man himself, Alan Partridge. He also spends some time in Qatar with disgraced former Sky TV football pundit Richard “Hairy Hands” Keys.

Quote from: Milo on October 21, 2023, 04:36:13 PMThe number of times he's said "gotta try stand-up" makes me think it could be something to do with that. Quote from: Maurice Yeatman on November 27, 2023, 11:56:48 PMIt's a joke based on one version of a famous proverb - A barking dog seldom bites https://en.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Additionally make sure your User-Agent is not empty and is something unique and descriptive and try again. Between Big Beacon and two seasons of the From The Oasthouse podcast, Steve Coogan has been writing and recording a ton of Alan Partridge material and I honestly think it’s some of the best work we’ve gotten from the character. The Broken Spine is a poetry and arts collective proudly published on the coastal edge of North-West England. Would have to be in the context of a live show I think, where he's getting laughs in all the wrong places.

Available in hardback, ebook, and audio formats, this memoir offers a captivating journey with Alan Partridge—an indomitable spirit igniting self-belief amidst perennial failure. I must say, I never knew how troubled the production of Alpha Papa was until much longer after I'd seen it.

An amazingly credible addition to the AP universe, and in reality two deserving targets who ultimately couldn't have too many complaints about their portrayal. Quote from: Proactive on October 21, 2023, 01:37:58 PMIn the real world I think the obvious place for Alan would be a GB News type outlet. Which makes me interested in exactly how much Coogan contributes to each work versus how much the Gibbons contribute. Mostly, though, the book revels in a series of set pieces that ably showcase Partridge as he always was, and ever shall be: a perennially foot-in-mouth oaf incapable of seeing the tragedy of himself quite as clearly as everyone else does. Big Beacon employs “a daring structure known as a dual narrative”, which, Partridge proudly explains, comes from the words dual “meaning two, as in dual carriageway” and narrative “meaning story or narrative”.From what I remember I think originally he thought Baynham and Iannucci would be much more involved in the entire project and as they'd always sort of flown by the seat of their pants and it turned out great he thought it would be fine. Last month, Audible announced it had commissioned a third series of From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast.
