About this deal

One day in December of 1985, officers with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation found the body of a 175-pound black bear that had gotten to some of the missing cocaine before the authorities did. And those who aren’t, only you can decide if the HDR grade and likely other incremental improvements in the image is worth the same level of premium…an all round disappointing 4K release from Mediumrare sadly. Alongside the boosted video, Universal also upgrades the audio from the wonderful DTS-HD Master Audio 7. The fuel tanks were contaminated by sugar and water, and while the plane had previously been grounded due to contamination concerns, the timing of the accident immediately created suspicions that it might have been sabotage by the drug smuggling operation.

So regardless of how you prefer to consume your media these days, the home video release date is just around the corner.UHD releases to the market just five months after the Blu-ray in what feels like a very consumer-unfriendly move. Severin Films brings together four more Italian gothic horror films from decades past in the second volume of their Danza Macabre collection. The corpse of the bear was later taxidermized and put on display, and while it may have been stolen at one point, it supposedly was rediscovered as a part of Waylon Jenning’s private collection in Las Vegas.

This release also comes bundled with a DVD version of the movie and comes packaged with a slipcover and an insert with a code that can be redeemed for a digital HD version of the movie. Most of the bear attacks are played for laughs, which works much better in the context of the wider film, and thanks to that fairly modest budget and lack of oceans of VFX work (which here veers between the very ok to the really quite decent), they’re brief and never hang around to derive any form of tension that may turn this out and out comedy into a horror comedy. The film adds a ton of different characters and storylines that all converge in the forest, meeting this unhinged mammal.

All Roads Lead to Cokey: The Making Of Cocaine Bear is a nine minute piece that introduces the main cast members, spends some time with director Banks and offers some details about the real life situation that inspired the movie in the first place. Thornton II, a particularly colorful character who had earned a Purple Heart during the Sixties as a paratrooper in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, before eventually became a member of the Lexington Police Department’s narcotics squad during the Seventies.

A notorious drug smuggler is flying a small airplane loaded with bags of cocaine over a forest area of the United States.

like Disney's 4K disc releases, digital versions of the film come with a Dolby Vision grade to compliment their HDR10 base layer and no matter how great the image currently looks - and it does look very, very good - it's difficult not to wonder if the inclusion of the alternative HDR grade wouldn't have added just that last little bit of sparkle. When Dee Dee’s mom , Sari (Kari Russell), realizes her daughter has skipped class, she heads out to look for her. Keri Russell, O Shea Jackson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Ray Liotta all play the blandest of archetypes – when Ray Liotta is forgettable in a role, you’ve gone wrong somewhere. New modern studio film release supplementals checklist – perfunctory and half assed marketing materials secured…check; pointless deletions and excisions that were absolutely right to be removed in the first place and add nothing whatsoever…check; completely unwarranted forcing down our necks that the film is supposed to be, you know, over the top, by everyone who may be slightly concerned that somewhere there is a member of the audience not aware that the entire film is a gag…check, check and check again.
