About this deal

Bocking 47’ is the gold standard of Comfrey varieties as it contains very high levels of potassium, phosphorous and nitrogen all of which are essential for healthy plant growth, larger flowers and bigger crops. Completely peat-free – this compost is 100% peat-free which means it has great environmental benefits (you can read more about that below! Sheep’s wool ensures good water retention due to its natural hydroscopic properties and naturally high levels of nitrogen. Using old gardening recipes they have worked to develop a range of wholesome composts that are farm-made and do what they promise. It is a fantastic fertiliser and is a healing herb so offers seedlings a fantastic rehabilitative nutrient boost.

No extra feeding of fertilisers needed as the compost contains all the nutrients needed for the entire growing season. By retaining and establishing peat bogs we can not only help reduce our emissions but also start to capture the carbon that is being released into the environment in other forms. Lancaster's Gardencare is a separate company and we refer landscaping enquiries to them as a free service. Contains wool – like some of our other gardening products such as our garden felt and shillies, this compost contains WOOL! Here at Nutley’s, we cherry pick the very best products to help you get the most from your green space, and nothing makes it into our range unless it’s known to be useful, fit for purpose and of excellent quality.

The gathering of flocks has become very difficult through waist high bracken stands and this very aggressive plant competes with other native vegetation to the extent that other plants fail and available grazing is reduced. Includes bracken – bracken is FULL of potash (potassium) which is essential for fruiting and flowering. Comfrey has been known to be one of the best composting plants, it is full of nutrition and helps plants uptake essential nutrients when added to the soil. When your seedlings are ready to pot or plant out, use the Peat-Free Wool Compost for Potting which will ensure your plants continue on their healthy growth trajectory. When I got talking to them on their Chelsea stand I discovered that there was something quite different with this compost and when I was told that it was peat free and made from sheep’s wool and bracken, my interest was piqued.

No other growing media has such a high concentration of naturally derived nutrients for improved plant size and quality. It also works really well directly into gardening beds – we’ve had great success with it in raised beds. Provides important habitats – peat bogs provide unique, natural habitats for many scare species as well as a wide range of nationally and internationally important flora and fauna. For every purchase you make with us, 20% of the profit facilitates the planting of trees on agriculturally poor land in Cumbria. Acts as a vital historic record of the land - peat contains vital and unique historical evidence of an area and its inhabitants.
