About this deal

Led Zeppelin's blend of rock and heavy metal with other genres of music such as blues, soul, folk, pop, Indian and Celtic ranks them as one of the all-time greatest bands whose influence is still felt today. Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker and others made these young musicians’ hearts go pitter-patter, including a skinny, outrageously talented guitarist named Jimmy Page. While largely admiring in tone, no grisly detail is omitted — and who would want to answer for any number of the stories told, especially when, in 2021, young and extremely high is no longer considered exculpatory. But like the band itself, what emerges most profoundly is the historic, stop-what-you’re-doing sound —loud, bluesy, unapologetic.

Celebrating 50 years since their formation, this definitive 400-page volume charts the group's unparalleled musical career from the very first performance in a tiny club, to their performance at London's O2 Arena, when 20 million fans broke the world record for highest demand for tickets for a single concert. Popoff analyzes the circumstances that led to their creation, the recording processes, the historical contexts, and more. Bob Spitz always gets right to the heart of the story, whether it’s the story of Dylan, the Beatles, or Julia Child. From the author of the iconic, bestselling history of The Beatles, the definitive account of arguable the greatest rock band of all time. Spitz’s account of their artistic journey, amid the fascinating ecosystem of popular music, is irresistible.

The first 100 pages of the book chart Page’s life from his childhood through to becoming a budding musician and session professional.

Spitz delves into some of the more infamous incidents, adding new details that make these tales ever more shocking. Robert Plant’s feckless pliancy throughout is hard to square with the exploratory nature of his later work. However, the moment they hit the stage I was not disappointed at all in fact, I was very impressed with their energy and the vitality and the whole sound.

Teenage photographer Jørgen Angel was there at the very beginning of the band s live journey and ended up befriending them, capturing them on and off stage whenever they passed through his home city in Denmark. I've been looking forward to this book for quite some time and when it arrived today, I wasn't disappointed. The band — Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John “Bonzo” Bonham — epitomized either the dreamy idealism of the ’60s or the bloated vapidity of the ’70s.Led Zeppelin wasn’t the first band to let loose on the road, but as with everything else, they took it to an entirely new level. A lovely and weighty souvenir, just make sure you have space on your bookshelf, I'd estimate it at 12 x 10 inches but I'm sure proper dimensions can be found.

Hardline fans unwilling to pay for anything that doesn’t include meaningful new information about the band’s music or career are unlikely to come away from the book feeling satisfied. He lets Robert Plant’s famous proclamation of “ I am the golden god” lay flat on the page in a way that allows the idiocy to speak for itself. If Page had his way, Led Zeppelin’s story would be told solely through the band’s music – whether studio albums or live recordings.

It began a long association with the band that has now been profiled in a one book: Led Zeppelin Denmark 1968 1970. The book is compiled by Dave Lewis – the highly respected Led Zeppelin archivist and author and editor of the long-running Led Zeppelin magazine Tight But Loose. In recent years, he appears to have relaxed this position, publishing an official photographic history of the band for its fiftieth anniversary in 2018 and co-operating with an authorised documentary film set to be released next year.
