About this deal

Hanging out with her best friend Trina and trying to persuade geeky Heath that she doesn’t fancy him. Once I had finished this course, I was going to make sure I had all the tools to start and finish a book. I had high hopes for this book after seeing all the rave reviews but ultimately it fell flat for me very early one. My Other Husband is fantastic in so many ways, it draws you into Cleo’s life, like your standing outside the window watching the drama unfold. They absorbed the nonsense and made me not mind as much if they went off on random tangents that were nothing to do with me. The plot was unique and unpredictable, and the twist at the end which I completely did not see coming. A Serving of Crime with a Difference - You May Just Discover Something Unique, Different, or Unusual in These 20 Crime Novels. So this is first for my with this author but I've heard lots of great things about her so when I got the offer of an early read I thought I'd take the opportunity to see what all the fuss is about and I can now completely understand why she is so highly rated.

Never one to rest on her laurels, Dorothy Koomson really takes things to another level with My Other Husband. It's just that the story arc follows the exact line you expect it to and, when coupled with the disappointing ending, the film doesn't make much of an impression.

I didn’t know what to expect from this book, I really had no clue what would happen and how it would end.Dorothy Koomson has sold over 2 million books through UK Bookscan alone and is a regular Sunday Times bestseller. The characterisation is excellent even those who are unlikeable are well portrayed and you gasp at some of the dialogue with the racist and sexist comments that Cleo is on the receiving end of especially in her career. Managing to build a new life for herself with Wallace, she begins to live her dream, but this soon turns into a nightmare and Cleo is convinced that Heath is back, watching her and doing his very best to harm those people who mean the most to her. But now she has decided to walk away from it all including her husband, Wallace, before her past secrets catch up with her. Without giving anything away, the makers of the film ended up taking the easy way out rather than resolving this love triangle in a satisfactory manner.

This was so close to being a five-star read for me but the only thing that made me drop half a star was because of how the story ended. I was really excited about what I thought was being built up to, but it ended up going off on a completely different tangent to the one I was expecting. Although this is a clever, multi layered slow burner there are some jaw to the floor reveals with information bombs that explode your expectations and opinions of certain characters. I won’t say any more as I don’t want to put spoilers in this review but trust me, this is such a unique story – I haven’t read a thriller with something similar, so good!Usually, being in a library space, with the books and the atmosphere they created, acted like a shield to protect me from the excesses of being around other people. Dorothy Koomson always knows how to pull her readers into a storyline and keep you completely wrapped up in the protagonist’s lives. Read all Alice seems to lead a quiet life: the first three days of the week, she works in Paris and and meets with friend Philip, and his little boy, Simon. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Headline via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion. Dorothy’s writing on love and relationships are never simple as her protagonists are mostly angst-ridden complex women with secrets.
