About this deal

This talk looks at the whole trip, from getting the camera gear safely through customs, a few mishaps and of course the amazing birds and other highlights as I travelled through three states! There is even a section on helping you take photos of the species found, hoping that you will be able to match the incredible photos in this book.

Concentrating on Butterflies, Dragonflies and Damselflies, this talk is a colourful presentation of the best moments watching these amazing insects within Shropshire. As they feed and grow young insects moult their skins often 10 or more times, with each stage known as an instar. You can’t expect any more, and for all but the most demanding of observers it will reliably get you to the point of knowing what the species is or at least knowing ‘it’s either this or something very similar’ which will probably do. Paul Brock has possibly done more to change how we see, recognise, grasp, understand, and, therefore, care about insects than any one else in Britain. Brock is a renowned author of insect books, widely published photographer, and a world authority on stick-insects and leaf-insects, with a genus and several species named after him.The same seasonal approach but with a different range of birds commonly found including yet more rarities and excitement! If you are in the market for a book that gives you the ability to identify insect species purely from visual observation or photographs in the field, I have some great news, a new title in the ‘Wildguides’ series entitled ‘Britain's Insects’, is now available! Michael Chinery is a well-known naturalist and the author of numerous books on insects and garden wildlife, including 'Collins Nature Guide Garden Wildlife', 'The Natural History of the Garden' and 'Collins Wildlife Trust Guide Butterflies of Britain and Europe'.

A similar talk to 'Birding through a lens' but dealing with a wide variety of wildlife found in the UK. After looking into the book i decided to purchase, i already own the Birds Wild Guide book and for me it's as good as the Collins but with less on the Technical jargon but the Insect edition works both ways, it has to as there is a fine line between species, i think the book is very well laid out and easy to understand about the insects. You don't have to know the islands to appreciate the amazing scenery, birds and a few other autumn specialities! The forums are dedicated to wild birds, birding, binoculars and equipment and all that goes with it. I realise that I haven’t seen an earwig for ages and now I know there are 7 British species but 3 of them are introduced and two of them are now probably extinct in the UK.

A renowned author of insect books and a widely published photographer, he is a world authority on stick-insects and leaf-insects, with a genus and several species named after him. A brief section of watching and photographing insects together with some snippets of their behaviour takes the reader up to the species accounts. It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. It features a look at ringing activities and how this will hopefully tell us more about their movements following fledging.

This book helps you take your first steps with the dragonflies and damselflies of Britain and Ireland and enables you to confidently identify most of the species that you initially encounter. impressive Britain’s Insects, which really will help you identify almost every insect you are ever likely to come across in the UK. From the ever present Gulls, Fulmars and Gannets, the interest notches up a gear with Skuas, Petrels and Shearwaters.
