As well as keeping your room temperature in check, the air conditioner can function as a powerful dehumidifier to remove any excess moisture from the air that could lead to the growth of mould and damp. Press the power button and the front half of the top of the unit lifts up to reveal the louver fan grill. Thankfully, once you've negotiated getting the unit into the room of your choice, there isn't much assembly to be done on the air con unit itself. The large control panel at the top of the unit has the same list of features, along with a small LCD screen in the centre which displays the output temperature. The touch control panel is well designed and very intuitive to use, and the option to download the AEG app to operate it is a big plus point.Finding the right one for you will be dictated by the type of window you're venting the exhaust hose from. Neither room posed much of a threat on a particularly warm day, with the Chillflex Pro dropping the temperature to a more manageable 21 degrees Celcius from a sweltering 25-degrees in just over an hour when placed in the larger space.Stand in front of the unit for few minutes on Cool mode and you'll soon start to feel positively chilly so quick is it to dispense the fridge-cold air. Keep it on for longer and the temps will drop even further; my flat felt positively arctic after a while. Potentially, you may be able to use it without a window kit by just sticking the exhaust hose out of the window, but this will mean you're letting hot outside air back inside the room, so the air conditioner will be working very hard to cool the room; not energy efficient or economical. It's also that Holy Grail of portable air con units – one that isn't headache-inducingly noisy to operate.
