About this deal

When sixteen-year-old Daniel Spargo-Mabbs dies on a night out at a rave after taking a lethal dose of MDA family, friends and teachers are left shocked and grief-stricken. A GCSE Drama Set Text from September 2022, the book features the origins of the play and a useful scheme of work for teachers. Daniel was intelligent, funny, given to moments of wild clowning, but essentially serious, a member of Amnesty International and devoted to other charitable work. This makes for an interesting starting point when discussing both how to utilise the ensemble cast and approaches to design. I remember crying as I related it to my wife – not because it was sad, but because it was brimful of love.

Students will learn that there's always a choice and that the risks associated with drug use are incredibly high.of students said they'd been given relevant information, 92% said it tackled their misconceptions about drugs, and 86% said it had changed their perceptions of the risks and consequences of using drugs. A verbatim play written by Mark Wheeller using the testimonies of Daniel Spargo-Mabbs’ friends and family.

David Chafer (Mark) is perfectly hesitant as he explores Dan’s life from Year 7 onwards with his friends. A new book to support teachers and students studying the play has been produced by Mark Wheeller, ‘The Story Behind…I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die’. Half Moon Theatre sits in the heart of Limehouse in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, spitting distance from the DLR and mainline station. Theatre in education is an effective genre to inform, to educate and to make real life situations relatable and to prompt us to ask questions about how and why things happen.A talented, creative “lovely boy” with a passion for helping others who’s always on the side of the underdog. Watching her peers performing a true story about a situation she could find herself in really hit home and a conversation she had with a friend later that night confirmed that she had taken everything in and was scared she could in the future have to deal with something like this. I think the most important things are first that the audience was given a life-changing, perhaps life-saving, experience, and second that you have really helped make someone’s shortened life somehow have lasting value. Delving into the intricacies of language or historical content in a text has its merits, but Drama teachers are notoriously short of time. When Dan, a sixteen year old boy loses his life under sad circumstances it is nothing short of a tragedy.

I Love You, Mum - I Promise I Won’t Die tells the tragic true story of the death of Daniel Spargo-Mabbs following an MDMA overdose.

Paul Ibbott - Composer of the underscore for the OYT production This book offers a unique and fulsome guide for teaching/studying this play and includes a detailed scheme of work for teachers using the play as a set text in the GCSE Drama examination. His friend, Jack while dealing with the trauma feels gratitude that they were together in Dan's last conscious moments and yes, in those last conscious moments, He was happy. Wheeller's latest play, I love you mum, I promise I won't die, is quite different, however, and I found it extremely touching. There’s also links to the foundation set up in Daniel’s memory, ran by Fiona (his Mum) please take a look and see the work they are doing.

It is a fast-paced, tragic, vibrant piece of verbatim theatre, which should engage teenage readers, audiences and performers alike. The latter can feel overwhelming for non-design candidates, but asking students to distil how they see the play through a front cover or production poster is a simple but effective visual extension of asking what the play is about. That fateful evening is told through the words of his school friends and family, divided into two hard-hitting acts in Mark Wheeller's verbatim play. I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won't Die is the true story of Daniel Spargo-Mabbs, just 16 years old when he died of an MDMA overdose – the title being his final words to his mum. We also use different external services like Google Webfonts, Google Maps and external Video providers. I Love You, Mum - I Promise I Won't Die was commissioned by the charity set up in Daniel's memory to raise awareness about the danger of party drugs.
