The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 (2023) may be a little pricier than many Chromebooks, but that’s because it comes with just a bit more power. And, if you’re using one of these notebooks for work, it’s better to have too much than not enough. Where can you get it? Right now, you can get it in the US, with UK and Australia pricing and availability to come

If you need a machine to run statistical programs or withstand some heavy-duty workloads, this isn't for you. For wireless connectivity, the system has both Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, putting it on a par with any budget Windows system. ChromeOS, Now with Video Editing and Gaming You want hardware that’s more seamless to use: The keyboard cover comes with an excellent keyboard, but the rest of it is a pain to use. Knowing which is better, a Chromebook or a laptop with a more traditional OS like Windows or macOS, really comes down to your needs and how you intend to use your laptop. You want a budget-y Chromebook: This is a premium item with premium specs, so expect to pay for all this hardware. If you have a fast enough internet connection, you're not going to tell the difference between a Chromebook and a fully-featured Windows laptop or a MacBook. The display also claims a stunningly bright 1200 nits at full shine, but our tests show it gets an average brightness higher than that at 1,275.6 nits. The display panel was custom engineered just for this Chromebook, and that was money well spent on HP's part as far as I'm concerned. HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook: Performance

A low-end CPU like an Intel Celeron or Pentium or AMD A-Series will serve if all you do is browse with a tab or two open. Chromebooks based on Intel Core or AMD Ryzen processors will allow for more able multitasking, though they'll also be more expensive. Note that AMD offers a handful of C-series Ryzen mobile processors designed specially for Chromebooks. Most Chromebook connections are wireless, as you'll use the machine almost exclusively when attached to Wi-Fi. Wired Ethernet ports are rare, but support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi is ubiquitous, with 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 found in upscale and corporate Chromebooks. It's only in processor-specific tasks—as measured in Geekbench and GFXBench, which test processing and graphics performance, respectively—that the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 fell noticeably behind the premium Acer Chromebook Spin 714. But even as the more-expensive Acer led by a large margin, the Asus CX34 still delivered a considerable lead over most affordable ChromeOS laptops, like the HP Chromebook x360 13b and the Lenovo Flex 3 Chromebook. As mentioned earlier, the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 benefits from Google's new higher standard for budget-friendly Chromebooks, with an Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB UFS drive. That puts it closer, in many respects, to the more expensive Acer Chromebook Spin 714 (2023) than it does the budget-friendly HP Chromebook x360 13b (2023) or Lenovo Flex 3 Chromebook. But it's also not the only Plus model launched this week (eight models are debuting), so we compared it with the similarly equipped Acer Chromebook Plus 515, which has nearly identical hardware and pricing.Chromebook OS is limited to what is available on the Play Store in terms of software, so if you need to use very specific numeric, scientific, or creative programs, look elsewhere. To be honest, a Chromebook is probably the only circumstance where I'd argue that 8GB RAM is sufficient in a laptop. It also goes with an Intel U-series processor rather than the more robust P-series chip we see in the Acer Chromebook 516 GE, which is one of those ' gaming Chromebooks' you might have heard about. This is definitely the right call, since you won't need more than that for this device. No matter though; for a straightforward laptop experience, the CX1700 is hard to beat. The screen is wide and bright with a small bezel, and the larger form factor has allowed Asus to fit in a comfortable full-size keyboard including a numpad - a rarity on Chromebooks that some students and professionals are sure to find useful. With Chromebooks, there’s always either the budget yet cheap-feeling ones or the luxurious, premium-priced options. But, if you look hard enough, you’ll find plenty of affordable yet capable and premium-feeling choices as well – case in point, the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 (2022). You need a powerful device: Ultimately, this is a laptop built for the everyday, so you won't get any spectacular performance out of it.

Prices shown for each product category are lowest configuration prices available from U.S. HP.com directly and before any available promotions or discounts. Pricing will vary by configuration within each product category. HP.com prices are subject to change without notice and all products are subject to current availability. You're on a tight budget: This Chromebook starts at more than a grand, so its easily the most expensive Chromebook out there. You need a lot of computing power: If you're planning to do any video editing or creative work, this is not the laptop for you.

Maybe not in terms of its robustness or compatibility, but because for a lot of modern freelancers, everything is based in the cloud anyway, so a MacBook or XPS device is frankly overkill for their needs. This is exactly the kind of niche where a Chromebook is perfect, and is in fact ahead of its time in predicting the cloud-based future of work. Most of your files on a Chromebook will be stored in the cloud, so many Chromebooks include only a small serving (32GB or 64GB) of eMMC flash-memory storage on which to save your local creations. Look for an SD or microSD card slot if you think you'll want to save more documents and files on the device. A growing number of Chromebooks have 128GB or larger solid-state drives (SSDs), which are much faster as well as roomier than eMMC flash. Some very new models alternately employ UFS drives, something of a speed and price midpoint between eMMC and SSD. Chromebook Plus models will include at least 128GB of storage. Connectivity

Chromebook Plus and Gaming Chromebook performance is compared to top selling Chromebooks from July 2022 to Dec 2022. When it comes to choosing the best Chromebook, price is most people’s first consideration. That’s because a lot of these laptop alternatives end up in the hands of more casual users who don’t need a whole lot from their PC. In such a case, a cheaper yet still capable option is the better value – one of the best cheap Chromebooks, perhaps.
