J'avais "peur" que le mangaka se concentre uniquement sur faire de jolis dinosaures mais j'ai finalement aussi accroché à son character design. Today we’re happy to welcome back Tommy Leung, who previously delighted you with their review of My Girlfriend is a T.

But a few pages in, and I soon remembered that he was the author of blockbuster sci-fi and “techno-thrillers” so of course his T-Rex would be an insatiable serial killer of everything within reach. The art is great, I wasn't expecting a lot given I haven't read the author before, but it was lovely and the dinosaurs look sick. All the dinosaurs you expect to have feathers are as fluffy as they should be, and an actual paleontologist, Dr. There obviously wasn't a lot in this first volume other than introducing characters (including dinos) and setting the scene, but there's a great little teaser at the end that will leave you wanting more. The artwork is amazing (especially when it comes to the representation of the creatures) and the story is interesting enough to make you turn another page. Fossil Revival: In the series' universe, scientists managed to achieve this in the 1980s, thanks to breakthroughs in genetic science. Note, I'm not that well versed in Manga, my experience coming mainly from reading Nausicaa and Junji Ito, but when I saw someone discussing this book somewhere, I knew I had to look into it. And mangaka Itaru Kinoshita does a great job with their designs, making them seem life-like and eye-catching.

I read Dinosaur Sanctuary 1 earlier this year (see my review) and it was one of my favourite books the whole year, and one I’d rate pretty highly in general. While the dinosaurs in-universe are depicted as no more dangerous or monstrous than modern-day wild animals seen in real-life zoos are, it's made abundantly clear that dinosaurs in-universe are still seen as such by the general public, owing to the 2006 incident. Of course, in this universe, Michael Crichton could have wrote Jurassic Park because of said boom in dinosaur zoos, intending to address the consequences of resurrecting extinct species note One may assume if the public felt his views were vindicated after the 2006 incident.

Until, well… the unfortunate accident, when people’s attitudes soured on the idea of visiting dinosaurs.

My only previous manga experience was the four Star Trek books released some years ago, which are western style. I think my favourite story focuses on a triceratops, a once famous dinosaur that lost his time in the spotlight after injuring himself and loosing one of his horns. There's a lot of focus on zookeeping as well, making this story a rare case of an Extinct Animal Park story actually focusing on the "Animal Park" aspect.I love that Kinoshita decided to set the story on Enoshima, a town near Kamakura about an hour's train ride from Tokyo - I've visited the island once before and being able to imagine the story taking place there just adds to the experience. Kaina's closing chapter is hindered by a stereotypical villain and predictable plotting, where the destination was emphasized over the journey. This caused a great deal of initial excitement among the general public, but after the initial hype, public opinion has turned against dinosaurs due to a fatal incident at a dinosaur zoo. The artstyle is absolutely gorgeous with a lot of detail for both the dinosaur and human characters, but enviroments also aren't forgotten. While the creators of Dinosaur Sanctuary have provided some groundwork for interpersonal drama and character development in the story, it is very clear that the dinosaurs are the real stars of the series.

And for another example, Troodon is shown to be a legitimate genus, whereas in reality, the genus is dubious at best and supposed examples of its fossils seem to actually belong to other, related genus within the Troodontidae family (though, this latter detail is acknowledged in the interludes). A stork-size theropod may be a dangerous animal to handle, but more in the way that a grumpy cassowary is potentially dangerous. They're struggling a little to make money but our naïve heroine seems to be up to the task of saving the place across the series. Dinosan, or Dinosaur Sanctuary, is a fairly new manga that I think should be getting some more attention.
