Ludovico Maria Sinistrari, De Daemonialitate et Incubis et Succubis. 1680 manuscript, London 1875 printed edition. [5]

Before returning to mainstream view in 2008 (nearly a decade later) via the internet, Joshua Free had already spent fifteen years intensely exploring esoteric sects of society, underground counter-culture and contemporary academia. Following an individualized path, preferring personal apprenticeships over direct membership in certain groups and organizations, his all-encompassing ‘Universalist’ pursuit is to unify the knowledge and potential of the ‘human condition’ experiencing life in the “metaphysical universe”. [The literary cornerstone of this effort, consolidated and released in 2008 as "Arcanum", not only earned him an honorary position in the "Ordo Lapsit Exillis" from Tracy R. Twyman and then as a companionate to the "Dragon Court" of (the now 'late') Nicholas de Vere, but also contributed to the rise of his own revolutionary 'Next Generation' (NexGen) underground movement...] Polanski approached the subject skeptically, saying, "I don't believe in the occult. I don't believe. Period." [5] Yet he enjoyed the genre. "There [are] a great number of clichés of this type in The Ninth Gate, which I tried to turn around a bit. You can make them appear serious on the surface, but you cannot help but laugh at them." [5] The appeal of the film was that it featured "a mystery in which a book is the leading character" and its engravings "are also essential clues". [6] Graham, Bob (10 March 2000). "Summoning Silliness". San Francisco Chronicle . Retrieved 9 April 2009.Roman Polanski's film The Ninth Gate (1999) was adapted from Pérez-Reverte's novel. While following the same basic plotline for the first two-thirds of the film, the finale is greatly altered in the movie. Several characters' roles diminish, expand, merge, swap or disappear completely, and one of the novel's most important subplots – the Dumas connection – is removed entirely. Aristide Torchia, a fictional historical author from the novel, has been referred to in other media including The Ninth Gate (a film based on the novel), and video game Max Payne. Hello Michael, The book arrived safely. It is truly impressive and meaningful. I own hundreds of occult texts, some rare gems too, and I can honestly say that the power and energy of this book is undeniable. It's your best book yet. I am excited to have this glorious work in my collection. Sometime in the last century I wrote my masters thesis on the inability of a divine soul to fail to create. The more devoted, driven, focused and intense the worker is the more of their soul (divine energy) they impart to whatever they are doing or creating. It was immediately clear, upon first examination, the intense energy you impart to your creations. Clearly, you have a love and passion for your works that is masterful. This is my third of your books and, in my opinion, this is your best work yet. Congratulations and thank you for this wonderful gem." Corso finds a separated engraving at one of the earlier locations he investigates. When he sees the image, it appears to convince Corso that everything he doesn't want to believe about the Devil is real. The engraving depicts the Girl in an image inscribed from the 1600s, which he sees as proof that this drawing is authentic. Corso has the piece that Balkan is missing all along, being guided by the Devil himself. Diverting from the book ending, Corso then arrives at a castle and travels through a gate filled with light, which many take to represent the titular "Ninth Gate." Lucas Corso is a middle-aged book dealer with a reputation of doing anything—regardless of legality—for his privileged clientele. While in Madrid attempting to authenticate a previously unknown partial draft of The Three Musketeers, he is summoned to Toledo by Varo Borja, a notoriously eccentric and wealthy collector.

Corliss, Richard (27 March 2000). " The Ninth Gate". Time. Archived from the original on 22 November 2010 . Retrieved 9 April 2009.The fictional character Torchia was born in 1620. He was apprenticed in Leyden under the Elzevir family. After returning to Venice he published small works on philosophical and esoteric themes. In 1666, Torchia published De Umbrarum Regni Novem Portis (The Nine Doors to the Kingdom of Shadows), which was in turn based on the Delomelanicon, or Invocation of Darkness, a work supposedly written by Lucifer and that would allow the reader to summon devils. The Inquisition condemned Torchia for magic and witchcraft and burned him at the stake in 1667.

The Ninth Gate doesn’t provide shrieks of terror; it tightens the suspense like a noose. Polanski subtly creates an uneasy atmosphere using minimal effects. The director knows where evil lives and lets the settings and sound make the invitations with subliminal references to recognizable horror and cinematic danger.A thorough study of this diagram and navigation of the experienced realities which the symbols of the Tree of Life represent might be the work of many lifetimes, but it is possible to touch the high points which are represented in the engravings of the Nine Gates and get a general idea of the territory and the journey.

That shouldn't disregard the fact that it's legitimate grimoire material. As stated by the maker of these books himself, "The text for this commission is nine different occult texts separated by a "gate" printed on 50 year old vellum laid ... There are 6 different versions of the last plate (VIIII) and of course the genuine LCF plate was never in the film prop book....This is the only copy in which both the "star burst" LCF plates are present, the last plate in the book being the genuine version."
