This is followed by praise for the book including a long list of alternative medicine practitioners and celebrities, featuring the forward by LeAnn Rimes, a Grammy award winning singer, who unsurprisingly gives us a personal anecdote about how fasting helped her. Fasting is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Dr. Mindy Pelz is one of the leading experts in this area of fasting for women, and she truly understands how fasting is different for both men and women. I don’t read much nonfiction but this was very informative. I’ve ventured into intermittent fasting on and off so this was a good look into how women have to go by a different set of rules so to speak. I enjoyed learning about the different types of fasts and what each one accomplishes. During my read I tried out the 16:8 which I found to be very reasonable, and I did drop some weight, so that was cool. Those 24hr and 36hr fasts gonna have to wait, I don’t have that kind of stamina yet (or ever?).

So you’re ready to start, the question now becomes, how do you begin fasting ? STEP 1: CREATE A FASTING WINDOW how to time fasting according to your menstrual cycle (although if you don't have a cycle, she has you covered) Once you’re comfortably fasting 13-15 hours, you’ll want to streamline your macros a bit more. You’ll continue staying under 50 net carbs, but also under 50 net grams of protein, with 60% of your food coming from healthy fats . Drinking water and maybe coffee during this fast is okay. Get a blood reader like the Keto Mojo for this step, and learn how to measure your blood sugar and ketones . You’ll take a reading right after you wake up and a second reading right before you eat your first meal. What you want to see is that blood sugar is decreasing and ketones are increasing. If this isn’t happening, you’ll want to try increasing your fasting window and also taking a closer look at your macros. Is there ever a time you should stop fasting? Yes! If your ketones get above 7, your blood sugar drops below 40 or you are not feeling well, you should break your fast. You can also try drinking salt water or taking a mineral supplement like MIN to help stabilize minerals during fasting.The second part was really unique. I think syncing diet and fasting to our cycles as women is definitely a game changer.
