Man Behind the Man: Wax's sister Telsin is not a hostage, but a member of the Set, and outranks Suit. Theme Naming: The Set's leader is called the Sequence, both mathematical terms. A rank within the Set is called an Array. In Suit's conversation with Trell's servant, it speaks in a very logical, almost calculated fashion, possibly hinting at the nature of Trell.

He hit the street and strode past a long line of carriages. Guests were already in attendance—Survivorist tenets called for weddings either very early in the morning or late at night. Wax nodded to several people he passed, and couldn’t help slipping his shotgun out of its holster and resting it on his shoulder as he hopped up the steps and shoved the door open before him with a Steelpush. Showdown at High Noon: Subverted. Wax himself claims that he's conducted testing and such showdowns make no sense, as the one that draws first, always shoots first. And when his clueless uncle Suit proposes a shooting duel, Wax does not shoot but throws himself at Suit — getting shot in the process — and then uses his Allomancy and Feruchemy to defeat him. Exact Words: Allik tells the crew that before he arrived to the south, the Sovereign was a king, then a god. When Wax tells him the Lord Ruler died, he replies that the Sovereign told that too. He never says those two were the same person.

Someone has detached the group’s train carriage from the others. Wax fights off the bandits. Steris is thrown off the train during the fight. Meanwhile, Marasi has figured out that the spearhead from the statue is the actual Bands of Mourning. Everything else was a decoy to keep people away. She manages to grab it while under guard and starts rampaging with power. She goes to Wax, who has returned to life, and gives him the Bands.

Genre Savvy: Wax was once a callow youth seeking adventure and treasure in the Roughs, and knows exactly how stories of treasure go. The temple's setup is straight out of a storybook, which makes him suspicious. Wayne is filled with hatred for the world as Wax dies. Wax was the only one who believed in him. He grabs Wax's shotgun and wills his hands to stop shaking. Marasi has been working well with Constable-General Reddi the last two weeks, getting information from the soldiers about the Set. Suit has not talked. Aradel prepares for war with the outer cities.Marasi tries to figure out where you would hide such an important weapon. She realizes that the temple with all its traps is the perfect decoy. She sees the spearhead right next to her and notices that it's not made of aluminium but of many different intertwined metals. In addition to storing all the basic attributes of Feruchemy, it also grants the user the ability to use Allomancy. This is possible because Nicrosil can be filled with Investiture, giving the tapper the ability to burn metals and tap or fill other metalminds. [5] The amount of Investiture was such that Marasi actually saw the Mists emanating from her when she used it, [3] and Wax believes that his abilities are like the strong Allomancy of old while he is using it. [6] Police Are Useless: Averted. Marasi and Wayne get into a shootout at a graveyard in the middle of the city, complete with someone throwing dynamite at them. The constables are alerted to the disturbance and arrest the perpetrators.

Allik: The Sovereign was our king from three centuries ago. He told us he was your king first. And your god. Everything in the church is soaked, but there are no serious injuries. The water tower's legs only broke on one side, but it's not clear that it was an assassination attempt. Wax attempts to console Steris, who has anticipated some disruption of the wedding and has booked another church in two months. Wax cannot avoid admitting to her that he is glad the wedding has been put off for now. While waiting for Wax and Steris to return from the party in New Seran, Wayne is again reading a book, this time about a group of seven convicts who steal a spaceship. Sheung, Stephenie (21 January 2016). "Review: The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson". The Speculative Herald . Retrieved 21 February 2016. Evil All Along: Telsin. Not only is she a Set member of apparently higher rank than Suit, she recruited him.
