In gourmand terms, if this was edible, I would say this is a digestif or better yet a dessert cocktail. In my opinion, Opium is the predecessor of La Nuit de L'homme and in many ways, does a better job at capturing the essence of nights spent with a new love interest or significant other. While it's not modern smelling by any means, it certainly doesn't smell dated, just more appropriate for 30+ in a slightly more than casual environment. The pronounced exotic spiciness of this combination tingles the nose with a pungent array of precious notes absolutely designed to attract attention. Warm, alluring, Opium Homme is a creation of the house of YSL, a response equivalent to the perfume launched for women, well known by the community.

Not my thing at all, but I guess that on someone else and especially in summer it can give an elegant, retro/mature gentleman with good tastes aura and stand out among the Sauvage, Y, Dylan Blue and Bleu.

A superb autumn perfume, in which you want to immerse yourself, induces a feeling of well-being, it dresses you in some pleasant aromas that you would never want to get rid of. As far as performance, I've sprayed it at 3PM and now it's 5AM and it's still noticeable on my skin (14 hours). I think I would like this more if the black currant were not so pronounced throughout, but I have a feeling this is one of those frags that smell better in the air around you than when sniffing directly from your skin. Somewhat tamed from what it used to be but still a strong performer which remains true to the original. and yes, both rive gauche and opium are undoubtedly related to "azzaro pour homme", but both are also undoubtedly better.

Normally I like unisex citrus scents like Creed Milesime Imperial or Aventus, and this Opium is completely masculine, but, unlike Sauvage, in an understated but substantial way. First you’ll enjoy the delicious fruit cocktail of currants and mandarins, supplemented by aromatic star anise and the essence of masculinity – lavender. And besides, if my nose doesn't fool me, I think that from the original formula to this one there have been no major changes. One last thing I wish the US market would get the EDP version of opium pour homme like they do in France. I recently re-discoverd and stacked up 5 back up bottles because rumours come and go about Opium being discontinued (it isn't, right now).

It seems to have been reformulated but is still very much like the original EDP, lasts a long time, one light spray on my arm at 11.Might have made a mistake though, as with all perfumes that get reformulated (=discontinued imho) this might have fetched a pretty penny. It's kind of how I imagine a high class casino would've smelled in the 70s, 80s and early 90s in Monte Carlo or elsewhere on the Cote d'Azur. It is all about warm, spicy and oriental blend of black currant and star anise laying on top of a woody and balsamic vanilla.
