How perfect to have the essence of our trip in a tiny bottle :) I may well have to purchase a full bottle of this one! It's just sophisticated enough without veering into unapproachable aloofness like many of my Chanels do. What's not quite so special, is me wearing this in my working from home 'pandemic chic' of leggings with holes in and slippers, rounded off with the same top I've been wearing for 3 days.

UPDATE: Alaia also shares similarities with Kelly Caleche EDP (turned really sour on me) except more ozonic then sour. So why does it smell like a musty old book that has been sitting covered in dust for years when i spray it on me? Violet has a rather melancholic vibe in erfumes on my skin despite of I absolutely adore its sscent in nature but never really wear it as a perfume because it has this subtle depressing effect on me.

I recognize a faint similarity to Gucci II for her (pink juice, lethal weapon glass bottle), but I enjoy this much more. It’s subtle, quiet and refined and put against all the flankers, flower bombs and in your face perfumes out in today’s market, this is a welcome change of pace. There are some aromatic and balsamic tones here as well as Oriental spiciness and also even a slight Chypre-ishness. After that initial heady stage this becomes a very unique scent and I'm glad I bought it, beautiful enough to become a classic! This is an extremely high quality scent that can work in literally any situation and any time of the year, it will make you smell good naturally.

I really like it, it's a nice floral on the sweet side with a vintage feel without being too stuffy. I read a lot of people are dissapointed, beacuse they thought that tis scent would be oriental, but why is that?Going to put this on, go out to a cabaret, drink and listen to a chanteuse sing of broken hearts and old lost love. Alaïa perfumes have the most seamless blend with a distinct air of familiarity to them while not resembling another fragrance on the market or having really distinctive notes that you can pick out, which I think is very special of them and this edition is no different. This frag smells like the Blue lilies of the Nile in full bloom at the high altitude of the Blue Mountains.

Luca Turin mentions this scent does that rare alchemy of starting at the base notes and progressively elevating to top notes as it lingers on skin. The opening is gives a burst of fresh air, made spicy with pink peppercorns, warming to an abstract floral heart of two of my favourites, freesia and peony before mellowing down into a leather base met with musk. Alaia did become warmer as the aquatic notes and musk developed and, thankfully, pushed the peppery sharpness into the background.

I didn't know if I'd like it, and honestly I thought I would but I knew there was a chance I wouldn't (given the tricky relationship I have with musk). It's quite lovely and I do like it, but I don't think I want to smell like this for too long because it just doesn't feel like "me. Super sad because I wore this religiously and it is seriously one of my all time favourite perfumes.
