So far I'm quite happy with the way this has worked out and a lot less worried than I was about using a single mounting point for the silencer. I'm guessing it needs another mount in the middle of the car, and probably the rear one replaced, but what parts will this involve, and will simply remounting and clamping up sort it? These provide that little bit of extra flexibility that stops exhaust installation being such a pain-in-the-neck job. I'm planning to get an RC40 mounting kit, which has the two rubber bobbins, the centre mount, and some U-clamps, then take it into a garage and see what they can do.

I think it would be better without the metal washers either side of the chassis bracket and exhaust bracket - I think it would give a little more flex and transmit less noise. Go to a motor factors like Halfords in the UK (or something similar where you are) and they should be able to supply you with some Mini (old classic Mini) exhaust rubber mounts, cheap as chips and similar to Norton stuff apart from a radiused centre. bolts can be prone to brittle fractures and if the exhaust took a severe knock on the ground it is possible that the bolt could experience a bending load if was forced to move beyond the range of free movement afforded by the bracket holes (but there is so. I used a nyloc nut and inserted the bolt from above so it wouldn't tend to fall out even if the nut came off. Ok ive found this as well not using the rubber bobbin setup that you have but uses the fixed set up for the rear mount! It might be something to think about though I still can't quite work out how it happened in the first place. In reality I don't think it would make much difference as if you look at the pictures both the exhaust and chassis brackets are as wide as the washers. The imperial size may have been true at one point but many motor factors now supply these with a metric thread and nuts to suit (certainly Halfords does). Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 13:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays). I checked to make sure that the holes in the exhaust and the chassis bracket are large enough to allow the bolt to pivot through a large angle, ensuring that the load is always on the rubber spacers rather than being a shear load on the bolt.

The very rear bobbin type mounting rubber on every Mini made until the introduction of a rubber hanger strap in 1992.

I planned to sandwich each of the 26mm wide rubber bushes between 25mm M8 stainless penny washers to distribute the load evenly. New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging .
