The southern part of Liverpool Road and the western side of Islington High Street, including the Angel Inn were in the parish of Clerkenwell. It will impact on all online payments, including parking permits, PCNs, council tax and rent payments. Queues snake around the block every weekend for this lively boozer – and for good reason as it’s the place to go to really let your hair down. But as I was aware of some of the historic nature of the area through which I was passing, I greatly enjoyed the stroll.

Once inside, you’ll find a snug interior with a nostalgic jazz vibe – they do live music here – and a menu of inventive drinks (Heather Negroni, anyone? The Angel, Islington had been a key London landmark and meeting place long before its appearance on the Monopoly board. An early purpose-built cinema, this was the most ambitious of several cinemas in the area about this time. The destinations listed on the side of the coaches are Holyhead, Manchester and Liverpool, illustrating the routes that would be taken by those passing the Angel. The station is in London fare zone 1, and Oyster Cards can be used for travel to and from the station. In medieval times, Islington was just one of many small manors in the area, along with Bernersbury, Neweton Berewe or Hey-bury, and Canonesbury (Barnsbury, Highbury and Canonbury – names first recorded in the 13th and 14th centuries). Their old home became the Islington Empire and some of the music hall greats such as Dan Leno, Cissie Loftus and Little Tich appeared there. George Cunningham, the MP for Islington, South-West asked a parliamentary question about the plans for the junction and whether the Greater London Council or the national Government would be funding the costs.

Not only decked in vintage furniture, quirky artwork and a myriad of spaces, their roster of American bites alongside stunning cocktails stands them in delicious stead. Dependent on different Internet sources (always a dangerous thing), they either met, or had lunch at the Angel, and decided it would be a good location and name for inclusion in their new game. I came across an illustration of just how much Islington was once outside London in a reference to the life of Elizabeth Hanbury (of the pharmaceutical family that eventually became part of GSK) who died in 1901 at the age of 108, 106 years after the death of her mother.

The Angel, Islington was therefore located where drovers and farmers bringing their sheep and cattle to Smithfield Market would stop off before making the final journey. Sought after for it’s stylish interior and chilled out atmosphere, The Bar with No Name is housed on a backstreet on Islington and is recognisable by an outdoor lantern which welcomes in punters from Tuesday to Sunday. The Met Office is monitoring the developing weather situation and Yellow means keep an eye on the latest forecast and be aware that the weather may change or worsen, leading to disruption of your plans in the next few days. The opening hours were erratic, and you never knew if it was going to be open at all until one day towards the end of the 70s it didn’t open and then seemed to disappear overnight.

There was a door inset into the gates (which were usually closed) which was sometimes open, and inside — and I know this sounds quite whimsical — there was a sort of cafe, tables and chairs set out on the cobbles in the yard, where morning coffee and teas were served.Welcome to Angels Costumes – the largest privately owned collection of costume for film, theatre and television anywhere in the world. Saturday will see heavy rain move in from the south-west in the morning, followed by heavy, thundery showers in the afternoon.
