Description

The story arcs around Arthur, Guinevere, Derfel, Lancelot, Ceinwyn, Galahad, and Merlin are superb and weave together with such masterful storytelling. Esses cristãos, além de serem fervorosos, procuram acabar com a "magia" dos antigos deuses que sempre estiveram presentes nas orações dos habitantes dessa terra. As the enemy retreats, the British kings are surprised by the sudden arrival of Lancelot and Cerdic, another Saxon king who is Aelle's chief rival in eastern Britain. This second book in the Warlord Chronicles Trilogy lagged a little bit in the middle but ended on a very exciting note! Culhwch puts down a rebellion by Prince Cadwy of Isca and in the process discovers that Christian noblemen and magistrates in Dumnonia had conspired to kill Arthur prior to Lugg Vale.

He’s less of the Nick Carraway to Arthur’s Jay Gatsby, and is now a fascinating character of much depth in his own right. At the same time, Derfel captures Dinas and Lavaine and, with help from Nimue, brutally kills them, exacting his revenge for the death of his daughter. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Using an older Derfel as the narrator makes it plausible because he has the credibility of an eyewitness. Again, I can’t fault it, really enjoying the storyline which is more than feasible for the period, the politicking is spot-on for me as is the battle of the religions which comes more to the fore in this episode. While Arthur tries to steer the land toward peace and and idealistic brotherhood of the round table (the depiction of which is horribly realistic and hilarious), the forces of the Christians and the Druids provide a backdrop of deeper power structures that are fighting a cultural war. Throughout His life, Jesus Christ was opposed by human and spiritual enemies as foretold in Genesis 3:15. For the Lord will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land, and sojourners will join them and will attach themselves to the house of Jacob. Merlin gives Derfel a bone and tells him that all he has to do is break it and his wish will be granted – namely that Ceinwyn will choose him over Lancelot – but warns that if he breaks it, he will be oath-bound to Merlin's quest. Lancelot's rebellion quickly loses momentum as word of Caer Cadarn's fall spreads and warriors from Dumnonia begin to rally to Arthur's side.

On the way back to Corinium, Arthur tells Derfel that he wants him and Ceinwyn to become Mordred's guardians in Dumnonia, as Culhwch has been having difficulty raising the boy.As Arthur and his wife Guinevere arrive at Caer Sws for Cuneglas' acclamation, Derfel witnesses Ceinwyn's apparent happiness with her betrothal. Enemy of God, the second book in 'The Warlord Chronicles' trilogy by Bernard Cornwell, and the series so far, has truly been serendipity for me.
