These principles aren't new, of course. Nor is the idea that living by them improves lives. What is new, and what we'll be exploring in this book, is how personal accountability and the QBQ relate to each of them. We'll show that using the QBQ and practicing personal accountability may be the most effective strategy for bringing the Advantage Principles to life. I just thought if I had some way to study your material further," David replied, "I could apply it even better!" I think this is a must have fast read for anyone in management. Some managers don't capitalize on the differences of their teams and instead trying to treat everyone the same and I have found that is a horrible way to operate. Instead it is better to identify what are the strengths and weaknesses of all the team members and help they play to their strengths while developing their weaknesses. The purpose of this workbook is to encourage true learning beyond reading QBQ! The Question Behind the Question®. In a nutshell, the QBQ® is a tool that helps each individual ask better questions so that he or she can practice personal accountability in all areas of life. T his QBQ! Workbook was inspired by the book QBQ!® and the principles taught in it. It is our hope that you will read the QBQ! book and then work through this study guide as a means to better absorb and apply the life-changing content in QBQ! More than a fad, slogan, or catchphrase, the QBQ is a tool that can sharpen our focus, reenergize our tired routines, and lead to bold improvements in work and life.

While in the airport waiting on my flight I stumbled across this small book and thought it looked like an interesting read. I snagged it from the bookstore and soon was settled into my seat waiting to take off. I started reading it and within an hour had finished it. When a light switch is flipped the flow of energy that is released reaches the lightbulb in an instant, bringing it to life. Similarly, asking the right kind of question-a QBQ-is the first step to empowering what Miller calls the Advantage Principles-five essential practices that will lead to a richer experience in every aspect of life:This book will help each of us learn to recognize and ask better questions. And just to be clear, QBQs are questions we generally ask ourselves, not others. They are rarely questions we speak out loud to colleagues, customers, family, and friends— but rather ones we think in our own mind. The book QBQ is not one of my favorites. The book I recently read was QBQ!”, It stands for the question behind the question. This book was written by John G. Miller. I personally didn’t like this book really because of just the style that it had. I don’t really enjoy this style of book writing where there is short stories, but it depends on what you like. I have been fortunate to both read John G. Miller's books, as well as see him speak in person, and I must tell you this is a reminder that we all need. The truth is, the concept of personal accountability is a tough pill to swallow for some today - it means we cannot blame others, and play the role of the victim. But if you think about it in the right context, who in their right mind would choose to be a victim? Instead of, "Who dropped the ball?" "Why do they keep messing up?" or "Why do we have to go through all these changes?" you will begin to ask, "How can I improve this situation?" "What can I contribute?" and "How can I make a difference?"

There are two types of questions. The wrong ones that lead to inaction and pain are called IQ’s, or “Incorrect Questions.” These are the questions like “why me?” that come up after something goes wrong. In contrast, the Question Behind the Question (QBQ) is “behind” those initial negative thoughts we might have when a difficulty arises. Learning to ask the QBQ will help you successfully navigate any hardship. What would you say if I told you I have a friend who never takes out his garbage? Instead he keeps it stored in drawers, plastic containers, and boxes. From time to time he pulls it out, spreads it on the floor, and rolls in it-for hours. I imagine you'd say that purposely collecting, hoarding, and wallowing in garbage is a ridiculous-even insane-thing to do. And I'd agree. Yet we all do it-maybe not literally, like my fictional friend, but in our minds.Huge difference between using personal accountability to solve a problem (which is what the book focuses on) and using personal accountability to initiate a conversation with others about working to solve the problem. Doesn't explain when you'd want to use which approach. Blame and "whodunit" questions solve nothing. They create fear, destroy creativity and build walls. Instead of brainstorming and working together to get things done, we blame-storm and accomplish nothing. There's not a chance we'll reach our full potential until we stop blaming each other and start practicing personal accountability. Even the best of us can fall into the trap of blaming others - here's the problem: I can never succeed, as long as I believe that my situation is someone else's fault. It is only when I ask myself the QBQ (question behind the question) that I am finally set free. From the bestselling author of QBQ! The Question Behind the Question comes a workbook to help you on your journey to embrace personal accountability. We have countless opportunities each day to make choices. And what is it that we are always choosing? Our next thought. A compelling opportunity for change exists in these individual moments. Taking charge of our thoughts can literally transform our lives. By helping us make better choices, the QBQ enables us to do just that.

The final few years of our dance partnership (we only stopped because we started a family) were the best of our career. My dancing was never better, but even more importantly, our partnership was never better. Funny how that works.A tool is something we can use to help us-in the moment-perform at higher levels. Organizations have wasted billions of dollars on so-called tools that are really only motivational sessions, platitudes, and great-sounding fads. But when we get pumped up in our meetings, rallies, and seminars, and then have to go out to do our jobs-something happens: We hit the "wall of reality." We think, What I heard in training sounded good, but it's not working for me in the real world. In other words, it's not practical. And if it's not practical, it's not much of a tool. Here's an integrity test for anyone who's part of an organiziation: Does what we say about our organization while we're at work match what we say at home? If it's positive at work and negative a few hours later at home, we have a choice to make. Here's an idea we should all consider: Personal accountability is about eliminating blame, complaining, and procrastination. When we point fingers looking for "whodunit," when we lament about our situation and what people are doing to us, and when we delay our own contribution while waiting for others to act, we are not putting personal accountability into action.

The Question Behind the Question (QBQ) is a great starter book to identify when you are asking an incorrect question as opposed to a productive question. For example some of the incorrect questions management asks are things like: Everyone seems to agree on the need for personal accountability, but no one knows what to do about it. The QBQ solves that problem by enabling us to transform our desire for accountability into real, lasting change.

My thoughts flew fast. NO! You lost my favorite server? You lost a guy who looked at me and asked himself, “What can I do right now to serve my customer?”I just couldn’t believe they had let him get away. This books talks about recognizing personal accountability in all areas of your life...personally and professionally. This book is a little short, so it is hard to write about. The basic moral of this book was taking situations that the writer had in his life, and going more in depth in it. He would go and find the question behind the question. One thing I did enjoy in this book was some of the stories in it. There were some short stories in this book that we’re somewhat intriguing and relatable, yet a lot of them I didn’t like very much. Some stories would talk about how what people do and what you think of it. I liked those stories. Yet in this book there were some stories that were either too demanding or too in depth about the Question behind the question.
