Description

The first impression we got when we held the Gerber Curve was of a swiss army knife with a carabiner built in. It’s a keychain style multi tool that’s just 2.25 in long and weighs only .8 oz. It gives you six different tools, including: Now we’re really hitting our stride with the next EDC carabiner. Considering how inexpensive this is, we’re rather surprised at what it features. With a durable construction of aluminum alloy and stainless-steel and seven amazing tactical accessories, we did fall a bit head over heels for it. The best multi tool with carabiner is kind of hard to choose. The category doesn’t lend itself well to standardized tools and there are more versions of different tools than we can count. That being said, there were two clear winners from the tools we reviewed. Carabiners exist in many different types, shapes, and sizes due to their versatile nature. Some might be more suited for EDC as a hanging point for your keys and gear. Others were designed as tools of paramount importance when climbing. Below, we’ll show you the characteristics you should consider when purchasing a carabiner. Use Case For such a potentially dangerous activity, your gear needs to have certifications, ensuring that the carabiner will be strong enough to hold your weight or more in the event of a mishap. On the spine of every certified carabiner, there will be a CE and/or UIAA icon.

If your multi-tool use includes a lot of driving screws, choose the Center Drive Plus. It is the best tool we know of for that purpose. Otherwise, it's more average as a general multi-tool. The rattly construction holds up well but doesn't instill high confidence. The pliers are more prone to pinching than more sophisticated options, and accessing tools other than the blade, pliers, and bit driver requires multiple steps.

A purpose-built, specialized tool for outdoor adventure and wilderness survival, while also serving purpose around the house At this price point, however, there are some compromises. The lone blade features a hybrid straight and serrated edge made of mid-grade steel, which will require regular sharpening depending on your use. The straight portion is easily reconditioned, but sharpening serrations requires special techniques. Further, that blade is significantly shorter than it needs to be. There is almost a half inch of extra space in the handle that Leatherman conspicuously does not utilize. Overall, you get far more than you pay for with the Leatherman Wingman, including some truly unique features not seen in even high-end models. If you're willing to spend a little more, the Leatherman Skeletool CX offers better ergonomics but fewer functions. If you use a multi-tool for basic tasks but are prone to losing it, the Wingman won't hurt quite as much to replace. The MUT is a serious tool designed to solve serious problems. Its load out of tools allows you to deal with most everyday situation while also fully field strip an AR15 or M4 rifle. It’s popular among law enforcement and members of the military for just this reason. I liked the fact that it came with replacement rods for the fire starter, though finding additional ones might pose a challenge. Weighing 1.1 oz, it’s not the lightest tool, but it’s not a burden either. It’s the kind of tool that sparks conversation around the campfire, with its cool factor being undeniable.

Compact integrated box cutter is made from 2mm Steel or Titanium. The modular system of the GP-Carabiner allows you to customize it. This feature is TSA friendly. You have a smooth riding edge as the sliding base to set the cutting angle and depth to avoid cutting the goos inside the box. Your fingers are protected as well. The ergonomic design allows for easy one-hand usage.

Like many of the more exotic tools we review there’s a sharp divide between different types of multi tool carabiners. The first are primarily carabiners with a few multi tool features built into them. A lot of these fall more into the novelty category than we’d like but there are definitely some useful and valuable models out there.

There’s also a wide variety of different brands out there. It seems as if everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and trying to produce the best mini keychain multitool. The brands we think you should look out for though include: So, now you’ve got the big scoop on what’s hot in the world of keychain multi tools, we’re sure you’ll find that special bit of kit that suits your own needs and lifestyle. EDC items like multitools are become incredibly trendy again, and it’s not hard to see why. They help to transform your simple keychain that carries your house keys, car keys and work keys into miniature tool chains. The few tools it includes — an upgraded steel blade, good pliers, screwdrivers, and a bottle opener — are the most often used, and this tool gets these right. But that's it; if you're seeking all the tools possible, you'll be let down with this stripped-down modal. Of the remaining tools, though, our biggest complaint is with the bit driver. With the Skeletool CX, even more than with other models, Leatherman could have easily included a standard 1/4" bit driver. Still, we have tested this model for over three years, and it has slowly grown on us. Thus, the Skeletool is our top recommendation for a portable, daily multi-tool to leave clipped on your person at all times.

Most of these tools come standard but not every model includes the carabiner. It doubles as a bottle opener and has a really interesting design. Instead of being built into the body of the tool it actually folds out like a knife or saw blade. Probably its most unique feature is its magnetic bit driver, which folds down inside the non-gate-side spine of the device when not in use. Once flipped out into action, that driver accepts third-party 5/32nd and 1/4-inch bits, along with special Leatherman-specific bits. It should be noted, however, that those bits will have to be stored and carried separately.

Carabiners can make excellent gifts for climbers. Make sure you research the product and your giftee’s climbing habits to give a biner that meets their needs. What is the difference between a D and an HMS carabiner? The wire cutters in particular are extremely well designed. They have several different hardness areas and allow you to cut different wires very easily. The carabiner is built into the reverse side of the hammer and is great for attaching the MUT to your bag or a MOLLE chest rig. A keychain multi tool is self-explanatory – it’s a Swiss Army Knife-style contraption that has a keychain loop that enables it to sit next to your keys. As an EDC or every day use tool, it can be very useful. It really depends on the model you buy though, as there’s a wide range of sizes and shapes out there. What sort of features can you expect from a keychain multi tool?
