The IK Multimedia iLoud MTM monitors can also be positioned on their side with a supplied desk stand. IK has a long history of modeling analog equipment and DSP solutions for guitar players and engineers, and they've put that experience to good use here.

Leaving them on the desk, I went through the process of calibration, setting up the measurement microphone where my head would be will sitting in front of the computer. In a nutshell, the measurements show the actual sound coming out of the speaker independent of the room.I just picked up a pair of iLoud MTM powered monitors, and to say that I'm impressed would be an understatement. The iLoud Micro Monitor set differs from the MTM system in that you’ll need only one power supply to operate both speakers.

It really does a disservice to the product, and is probably a big part of why there's less noise about these in audiophile or higher-end production circles than there should be. You can also shape the audio output to emulate popular studio monitors, as well as low fi devices such as TVs and car radios. Like everyone else I'm on a budget, but I would be willing to make some sacrifices and spring for a pair of A77Xs if they'd work here. The Adams sounded pretty good, but the 7" woofer is simply too large for this room (among other complaints laid out below), especially when placed less than a foot from the back wall.

It also measures the speaker at close distance ("near-field") which sharply reduces the impact of room noise. Everything has been aimed at the consumer end of the market, albeit often with professional specifications.

Thanks to an advanced and effective shape of MTM's body and their DSP side they are able to really give you a possibility to hear mixes as they are. I tend to prefer relatively neutral sounding speakers and equipment, and am most interested in great imaging and soundstage, transient response and impact, and open-ness.
