We have spent the past couple of weeks using the Actik Core headlamp for various activities, including late-night dog walking, sky watching, festival camping and using during wildlife rehabilitation activities. Here's what we think. Petzl ACTIK CORE 450: Design Not all headlamps are made the same. Some feature long-reaching, super-bright beams, some feature extra straps for support and some feature a red light as well as a white one, which helps with your night vision.

Petzl Actik Core Advanced Headlamp. ACTIK® with a rechargeable battery! The ideal rechargeable headlamp to extend your dynamic outdoor activities. Casting 600 lumens, ACTIK® CORE provides powerful and comfortable lighting to go with you when you're running, trekking, or mountaineering. Its phosphorescent reflector makes it easy to find in the dark and red lighting keeps you from blinding those around you when you’re with a group. ACTIK® CORE comes with the CORE rechargeable battery and also works with three standard batteries, thanks to its HYBRID CONCEPT design. Features The Nitecore NU31 is a traditional-looking, affordable headlamp with enough features to satisfy most stargazers. We found a lot to like about the design in our Nitecore NU31 review, right down to the reflective band that will help your campmates to spot you in the dark. This headlamp is particularly noteworthy for its robust aluminum casing whereas many other models are plastic. This adds to its durability, making it resistant to impacts up to a meter. It also has the added bonus of helping to dissipate heat. Although the Nitecore comes with IP66 waterproofing, which is sufficient for most weather conditions, it won't stand up to being fully submerged in water like some of the other models on this list. Durable, comfortable, and versatile, the Petzl Actik Core is a fantastic headlamp for use in just about any activity. We appreciate its bright lamp and rechargeable batteries, which should be standard on just about every high-end headlamp these days. This model features Petzl’s trademark reliability and great build-quality too, making it easy to recommend to anyone shopping for a new light source for use in the outdoors.A lightweight and powerful, rechargeable headlamp, with 3 light settings, and an impressive 600 lumens of power in a torch that weighs less than 100 grams. Petzl says: HYBRID CONCEPT design: ACTIK® comes with three AAA/LR03 batteries and is also compatible with the CORE rechargeable battery (not included); it automatically detects the energy source and adjusts lighting performance

BioLite Headlamp 425: A comfortable no-bounce headlamp that's incredibly lightweight. The rear red beam is an unusual feature, handy for group situations. The average headlamp features a range of lighting modes, including spot, flood, colored, and strobe lights. The default setting for most lamps is their powerful LED spot beam, which focuses the light at a distance rather than casting it wide around you (the max distance these can reach is listed in the "max beam" section of our comparison table). While not necessary in all circumstances, a long-distance beam can be helpful for looking far down a trail, trying to spot an anchor while rappelling, or even for extreme uses like caving. A proximity beam illuminates the area right in front of you The Petzl Actik Core 450 is a bright, well-built and versatile headlamp that comes from a highly reputable brand. They offer a two-year (or 300 charges) battery warranty and a five-year lamp warranty on this product, so you can be sure you're making a safe investment. In our Petzl Actik Core 450 review we were so impressed by this headlamp that we awarded it four and a half stars, with only half a star missing for the Micro-USB charge port; we'd prefer USB-C.We will keep customer information safe and secure and will not distribute or sell this information to a third party. Although the Knog Bilby has extensive features, this does mean that it's not as intuitive as some headlamps, so it's well worth reading through the instruction manual before you take it out anywhere. But we also found the Olight Perun 2 a fantastic light for camping thanks to its clever design features. We loved how you can attach it to a tent pole via its magnetic base and even set a three or nine minute timer so that it will automatically turn off without you needing to leave your sleeping bag. What is the best budget headlamp?

Vont Spark Headlamp: If you only need to use a headlamp very occasionally or just want one or two spares lying around in case of power cuts, these will fit the bill. Its phosphorescent reflector makes it easy to find in the dark and red lighting keeps you from blinding those around you when you’re with a group.Several lighting modes are present such as a red lighting mode to preserve night vision, an economy mode which reduces the light to 5 lumens and will run for 160 hours and a strobe light which is visible at 700m for 350 hours. On maximum brightness the light will travel 95 metres, ideal for mountaineering, trail running and mountain biking. A wide beam or a mixed beam allow you to change the lighting patterns according to your activity. A smaller circle of light will travel further in a smaller area, however a larger area of light will light up a larger area but travel less distance. There’s just one button on top, so the function is simple and intuitive and because it's a good sized button you can operate it whilst wearing gloves. We found that the electronic tilt function wasn't as effective as other manual options, but it does come with a useful battery indicator and will also automatically drop the light output down when it's running low on power to ensure you have enough to get you home. This is a super useful feature if you're planning to use it for long stargazing trips at night. With a red light for astro and four brightness settings, we would definitely recommend this headlamp if you like the silicone-based design.

The Actik is compact and lightweight at 88 grams, so the headband has been kept simple. The headband is comfortable, reasonably stable, adjustable, washable, and removable. Replacement bands are available for when it starts to look old and worn out. To guarantee you're getting honest, up-to-date recommendations on the best headlamps to buy here at Space.com we make sure to put every headlamp through a rigorous review to fully test each device. Each headlamp is reviewed based on a multitude of aspects, from its construction and design to how well it functions and its performance in the field. The BioLite HeadLamp 330 is the most comfortable headlamp we've tested. It has a 'no-bounce' design to help runners, with a reflective strip on the rear for added safety. What is the brightest headlamp? Compatible with the HELMET ADAPT and BIKE ADAPT 2 mounts, so you can attach the lamp to a variety of helmet types or a bicycle (1) For years, Petzl has made some of the best headlamps on the market, offering travelers and outdoor enthusiasts performance that they can count on. That legacy continues with the Actik Core, a sleek, lightweight model that offers plenty of features, a bright lamp, and good battery life at a reasonable price.

The reflective strip on the headband will make you more visible to others and will also make it easier to find in the dark. The front bezel of the headlamp articulates to adjust the light to your desired angle. I would have liked to have seen a setting for an even narrower, more focused, beam, but as is it is hard to fault the Actik Core too much. The bottom line is that it is incredibly bright, even on the lower settings, delivering plenty of light when and where you need it most.
