Tribit is billing the XSound Mega as more of an outdoor speaker -- a lanyard is included for toting it around as a sort of mini boombox -- but it works just fine indoors. It has an LED light show that you can turn on or off and there are three EQ settings for sound: XBass, Music and Audiobook. Additionally, it can be used as a power bank to charge your mobile devices.

While the speaker drivers remain the same, the Qualcomm chipset that powers the speaker has been upgraded (the speaker uses Bluetooth 5.1), bumping the sound quality up a tad, particularly at higher volumes, with better digital signal processing. It remains one of the best-sounding mini Bluetooth speaker models, with richer more tonally balanced sound than other Bluetooth speakers its size -- and it should sound good, considering its elevated price point. The SoundCore Mini 2 features Bluetooth version 4.2, enabling seamless wireless connectivity with compatible devices. Additionally, it supports AUX in, allowing you to connect external audio sources. Furthermore, it includes a USB charging port, ensuring convenient charging of your devices on the go. This mini Bluetooth speaker by Bose has been around since 2017 — an eternity for an industry this fast-paced. However, the SoundLink Micro is still one of the finest, thanks to a cool and Bose’s signature excellent sound. The bass, treble, and midrange are nicely balanced. It has a retro design, headlined by a white housing with contrasting color bits and a fabric loop in Polaroid’s signature colors. Its rotating volume button is a nice nod to a time when Polaroid's iconic cameras were must-have gadgets. The Wonderboom 2 is a follow-up to an already amazing speaker that blasts its sounds in 360 degrees. A calling card for all Ultimate Ears speakers, the no-nonsense controls with oversized volume buttons of the Wonderboom 3 are excellent, too. There are multiple finishes to choose from, each sporting a hang loop. And the speaker floats, should it tumble into a pool. When choosing a Bluetooth speaker, what it really comes down to is size and price. If you're looking for a very portable speaker, you'll want to get something very compact, but remember that smaller speakers usually produce less sound and bass than larger ones. So while there are plenty of mini Bluetooth speakers that deliver bigger sound than you might expect, they do have their sonic limitations. For a lot of people it's a question of finding a speaker that's not too big or too small -- one that travels well but also is capable of producing good sound for its size. But finding the best portable Bluetooth speaker also comes down to your budget. The speaker is turned off OR the battery is fully charged. The total battery runtime is approx 15 hours. Equipped with a single speaker, the SoundCore Mini 2 delivers a RMS rated power of 6 W, ensuring clear and powerful sound output. It can be powered by a battery, allowing for wireless use, or by using a wired connection. The connectivity technology includes both wired and wireless options, providing flexibility in how you connect your devices. Keep in mind that if either digit has an X in its place, the manufacturer hasn’t tested the speaker for either solids or liquids. So, a rating of IPX6 means that the speaker is water-resistant but hasn’t been evaluated for how well it fends off dust. Battery Life Mini Bluetooth speakers are designed so that you can take them with you, including to places where they might get dirty or be otherwise exposed to the elements. So focus on their ability to withstand intrusion by solids and liquids, denoted by an IP (ingress protection) rating. The first digit signifies how well the speaker can resist solids getting in, while the second signifies liquids. The higher the number, the better the device keeps things like dust and rain out, respectively. The scale for solids ranges from 0 to 6, and for liquids, 0 to 9.

Alas, Ultimate Ears, which is owned by Logitech, has not upgraded the charging port to USB-C. The speaker still charges with a Micro-USB cable, which is a bit of a bummer. The speaker now has a separate tweeter and a passive bass radiator that delivers fairly punchy bass. I'd say the speaker delivers very good but not great sound for its size and price (it distorts a little at higher volumes). For sound, it's sort of in between JBL's Flip 6 and Charge 5, so you'll arguably get slightly better sound from the Charge 5. But you're really buying this speaker for the light show -- that's what makes it unique and special and it does look mesmerizing. JBL Pulse speaker is now on its fifth generation and both the sound quality and 360-degree light show have been improved. JBL has "expanded the transparent outer body" so the customizable light show (there's a companion app for iOS and Android that allows you to alter the colorful lighting effects) looks more impressive. The speaker is also IP67 dustproof and waterproof, and it offers up to 12 hours of battery at moderate volume levels. The very compact Soundcore by Anker Mini 3 Bluetooth speaker may not deliver huge sound but it delivers more sound than you'd think (with just enough bass) from a speaker of its size. Available in multiple color options and weighing around 8 ounces or 223 grams, it has an integrated strap and is fully waterproof with an IPX7 rating. The Mini 3's nine-band EQ is far more effective for adjusting higher frequencies than the lower ones that the speaker can barely muster, which isn’t surprising. I tested the Soundcore Mini 3 with the EQ set to the Soundcore Signature setting, which is the default.

The JBL Bluetooth speaker that received the biggest improvements over the previous model is among the company's smallest. The JBL Go 3 has a completely new look -- it's now covered in durable fabric instead of having the naked plastic design of its Go predecessors -- and that new design, coupled with surprisingly decent sound for its small size, makes the Go 3 one of the top micro Bluetooth speakers out there.
