Description

Originally released in 1980 as a hand-bound limited edition, with over fifty archival photos, Harrison’s words, and his song lyrics, this book offers an insight into the musician’s life, work and philosophy. Now I Me Mine has been re-issued as I Me Mine: The Extended Edition, presenting the lyrics to 141 George Harrison songs, with handwritten lyrics beautifully reproduced in facsimile, accompanied by Harrison’s uniquely intimate and humorous commentary. Unprecedented in scope and filled with numerous colour photos, this rich biography captures George Harrison at his most multi-faceted: devoted friend, loyal son, master guitar-player, brilliant songwriter, cocaine addict, serial philanderer, global philanthropist, student of Indian mysticism, self-deprecating comedian and, ultimately, iconic artist and man beloved by millions. I, Me, Mine was released a few months before John Lennon's murder in December 1980. Lennon took offence at Harrison's book, telling interviewer David Sheff: "I was hurt by it... By glaring omission in the book, my influence on his life is absolutely zilch and nil... I'm not in the book." Harrison does mention Lennon several times, although not as a musical influence, which was the point of Lennon's displeasure. Cherished by fans and collectors, I Me Mine is the closest we will come to George Harrison’s autobiography. Featuring George in conversation with Derek Taylor, the book illuminates the inspiration and meaning behind many of George’s songs, while touching on everything from growing up in Liverpool and early Beatlemania to his love of India, gardening and racing cars.

In December 1987, Harrison was asked about Lennon's comments by Selina Scott on the television show West 57th Street. He told her: "[Lennon] was annoyed 'cause I didn't say that he'd written one line of this song ' Taxman'. But I also didn't say how I wrote two lines of ' Come Together' or three lines of ' Eleanor Rigby', you know? I wasn't getting into any of that. I think, in the balance, I would have had more things to be niggled with him about than he would have had with me."
