Description

Following is a list of English translations of the Quran. The first translations were created in the 17th and 19th centuries by non-Muslims, but the majority of existing translations have been produced in the 20th and 21st centuries. In The Shade Of The Qur'an is more than 'just another' commentary; yet it is not too over-reaching or outlandish to be a completely new interpretation. It is an earnest, sincere and sober look at man's contemporary achievements and difficulties in the light of the message of the Qur'an. It is an effort to vigorously explore its rich wisdom, and expand its invaluable guidance for the benefit of an increasingly 'sophisticated' , yet highly perplexed modern society.

I heard the Messeger of Allah recite 'at-Tur' in the Maghrib prayer, and when he got to the verses { "Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? No, but they have no firm Belief. Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like?"} [ at-Tur; 35-37], my heart wanted to fly from my body out of awe."

Verse (1:1) - English Translation

In this work, the author has attempted to bridge the gap between Muslims and the Quran. The author writes about what the Quran is and what is a Muslim's responsibility toward it. He also studies the effect that the Quran had upon the first generation of Muslims and attempts to answer why the Quran does not seem to have the same miraculous effect today. Structure and Qur'anic Interpretation , aimed both at readers familiar with the Qur'an and at those opening it for the first time, differs from other books on the Qur'an in that it reveals the text's fundamental symmetrical organization. Moreover, through readings of key Qur'an chapters, Farrin shows how structure serves as a guide to interpretation. Indeed, one finds that the Qur'an's structure again and again points to universal messages of an ethical nature, rather than to messages whose application may be limited to a specific context.
