First on the list would be the original Costume National Homme EDP. It’s still readily available, but usually goes for at or around the same price as the parfum on online discounters. So unless you really love the original (and some do indeed prefer it to the parfum) , I personally would opt for the parfum instead. However, if you are a lover of spices like myself, Costume National Homme Parfum might just be heaven for you. Performance is absolute beastly. 2-3 sprays max. 1 if you're wearing it to the office. Longevity is 12-14 hours for me and usually lasts through two showers.

If you want greater performance, you could always amp up the sprays, but I would recommend going easy on the trigger for this one, because… Projection & Sillage

Homme is the fragrance of a man with impeccable taste, who prefers a neutral colour palette and loves being surrounded by unique objects, the pursuit of absolute quality and design. His innate elegance is never boasted and is the result of a refined attitude towards beauty, expressed in every facet of his essence. Homme is timeless elegance; a merino wool overcoat; a byword for sophistication. The eau de parfum opens with fresh top notes of bergamot, grapefruit and cardamom. The heart reveals a distinctive nature, thanks to an unexpected mix of LMR* cinnamon of Grasse, thyme and cloves. In the base notes, patchouli, sandalwood and labdanum lay bare the depth and mystery of the male character. This is magnetic alchemy of seduction, mystery and timeless elegance. Over the years, Dominique Ropion has worked with several fragrance brands, including Christian Dior, Thierry Mugler, Lancôme, Givenchy, Issey Miyake, Yves Saint Laurent, Paco Rabanne, and The Body Shop. He joined International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. in 2000, where he continues to create groundbreaking fragrances. I think that it could be unisex, but it errs much more on the masculine side of the spectrum if you ask me. Still, ladies, by all means, take this one out for a spin and see if it works for you. When To Wear It EDP: "This fragrance is so pure and candid! It smells like milk, but also has spicy notes that create a wonderful contrast…wow!” - Grace

One is that this is a very high quality, high performance, designer fragrance with a niche character. In my view, this will be a great choice for people who are in their mid-late 20s and above who are a bit more settled in life. There’s a high probability that the person who likes this will have an interest in art, literature, film, music, etc. They probably go to art galleries and concerts, read books, and keep their finger on the pulse of world events. Homme has excellent longevity and average sillage. While Homme is marketed to men I can see women who enjoy a spicy fragrance also enjoying it.

The sandalwood is accompanied by a slightly earthy-sweetish nuance, which provides a pleasant depth and is due to the patchouli. Costume National has been one of the more successful clothing designers who have made the foray into fragrance. Laurent Bruyere created the first four fragrances for Costume National. Scent was followed in close succession by Scent Intense, Scent Gloss and Scent Sheer. These fragrances were all inspired by the tropical flower hibiscus and he used it in interesting combinations. My initial impression stays, this is a wonderful perfume. Even for those that don't like cloves, like me, this can be perfectly accesible. The comparison to Comme des Garçons is one that I can understand, especially during the first few minutes. But this perfume is a lot softer and much less pungent than CDG, which was more medicinal and heavy. I find CNH more versatile and more crowd friendly. It kind of reminds me of the holidays, don't know why though, but it does. While it might not be to everyone’s tastes, I adore the melange of spices, the greenness of the cardamom and vetiver, the grapefruit blast which adds some freshness despite the heavy profile, and the rich, creamy depth of the sandalwood, patchouli, and labdanum in the base.

Some of Ropion's popular creations include Givenchy Ysatis, Givenchy Amarige, Kenzo Jungle Elephant, Calvin Klein Euphoria, Thierry Mugler Alien, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, and Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. However, his most famous creation is arguably Portrait of a Lady for Frédéric Malle, which he developed with his friend and collaborator, Frédéric Malle. This fragrance is considered a masterpiece in the fragrance industry and has received critical acclaim. At the same time, a light citric, discreetly herbaceous nuance is perceived, which ensures that the top note does not drift into the dull, but rather receives a certain "aromatic freshness" and comes from the bergamot. Homme’s spice notes never fade away but as the fragrance dries down, the scents of patchouli, cedar/sandalwood and leather-lite become apparent. The extreme dry-down of Homme smells of soft, plush, and lightly spiced amber.

These changes, in my view, dramatically improve upon the original fragrance. The materials here also seem much higher quality, particularly the sandalwood, giving the parfum a roundness, smoothness, and balance which I did not find in the original. Scent Intense EDP: "Wow, this fragrance is amazing! One spray, and I feel surrounded by an incredible and magnetic aura!" - Elisa The most successful of these, for me, was Scent Intense. It is one of my favorite floral amber fragrances. Sadly Laurent Bruyere passed away in 2008 and since then only two scents have been released by Costume National: 21 in 2008, and at the end of 2009 the first male-marketed fragrance from the House, Costume National Homme. Dominique Ropion has crafted one of the best fragrances in the entire Costume National fragrance line and it is also one of the best he has done, too.Costume National Homme Parfum is a spice bomb of epic proportions. I will caution you: if you don’t like spicy fragrances, STAY AWAY. These two notes are surrounded by a beautiful light balsamic note reminiscent of blossom honey, which gives the base flattering attributes and allows the fragrance to fade away wonderfully.
