One of her fingernails ripped off as she lost her grip on the rock and fell back down the cliff face to the ledge below. The Frozen Charlottes don't just want to stab your eyes out with needles, although that would be fun. But some of the dialogue was a bit weird, it seemed overly proper and stilted, and every character talked exactly the same. If ghosts, creepy dolls, and a gothic setting is your thing then I think you'll be pleased to pick this one up. The suspense throughout was excellent – the tension building up, almost suffocating both me and the characters, was brilliant, and by the end I felt really close to Sophie, Cameron, Lilias and Piper.

After reading this, don’t forget tomorrow to check out the other reviews posted as part of Patti Abbott’s Friday’s Forgotten Books meme over at her fab Pattinase blog. Following the sudden death of her best friend, Sophie hopes that spending the summer with family on a remote Scottish island will be just what she needs. I'd understand if one would be a bit sceptical when you know it's about talking dolls and involves a Ouija-board but TRUST MEEEEEEEE, it's so much more and put together so smartly. The author went as far as having the five year old scared so badly off bones that she wants her own skeleton out of her body so they have to hide the knives so she won't try and cut them out.

The fact that the are real and that they have the rhyme that goes through the chapters of the book is even more creepy.

I would recommend Frozen Charlotte to anyone wanting a scary (ish) book with plenty of plot twists, and an exciting finale. I’ve never been more grateful that I don’t have a load of dolls in my bedroom or I probably wouldn’t have slept since reading this book. I enjoyed the odd red herring thrown at me at the outset but I also enjoyed that the villain of the piece became obvious early enough on for me to watch and anticipate what they would do next and how they would end up. creepy and scary as fuck little 'Charlotte' dolls, Ouija boards, eye removing, ghosts, hauntings, and an EVIL sibling that will make you have nightmares. No explanation is ever given and I almost rated it a 3 because of that since it was a major plot hole.Even Sophie eventually forgot that she found it suspicious and just moved on to the mysteries with her cousins and the Frozen Charlotte dolls. I mean I liked Sophie but there was nothing particularly special about her and aside from Piper none of her cousins seemed to be particularly fleshed up. There is a huge climax towards the end of this book that had my heart pounding and I thought the ending was really sweet too. I love the title Frozen Charlotte it is true as it mentioned those freaky dolls over and over and I could barely sleep when I finished it with those dolls and their diabolical ideas which creeped me out. I decided to read maybe just the first few pages to get a feel for the writing and atmosphere of the book but reading the ‘first few pages’ was a huge understatement.
