The two recipes each produce a different look, and perhaps they both have a place, depending on what exact aesthetic you are after.

First Impressions: Kodak Ektar 100 Review - The Analogue

As well as the aforementioned finest, smoothest grain of any color negative film available today, it also promises to bring ultra-vivid color and exceptional sharpness. Two things were done differently this time, which I believe helped this name to stick through the worst of the digital revolution .To achieve a more correct color palette, this recipe is based off of Classic Chrome instead of Astia.

Whereas my slide film made the beautiful powder look like washed-out blobs of white , Ektar’s fantastic ability to tolerate overexposure ensured that the delicate snow textures are visible while still looking bright. It’s only available as an 100 ISO film (keeps that pesky market unsegmented), but it comes in multiple formats – 35mm, 120 medium format, and in 4×5 and 8×10 sheets. These two images were shot one after another and gives you a good idea about what the colors look like when you slightly underexpose the film. For a really long time, if you wanted very vivid colors in your film photos you needed to go to a slide film–but when Kodak introduced Kodak Ektar 100 things changed. I began writing this article in my head a long time ago, but kept on trying some new experiment or other with Ektar 100, and time got away from me!From a technical perspective the weather was perfect, maybe a few too many white clouds, but the Ektar handled the exposure really well. If we are to trust those measurements, there should be no grain visible on 4x6” prints made from 135-size Ektar rolls; 8x10” prints will show no grain when made from medium format Ektar rolls, and there will be no grain on 16x20” prints made from large format sheets. Spanish photographer Celia Kiedis recently tried out our LomoChrome Metropolis film for the first time. I packed my day bag with Ektar 100 and three different cameras, while my friends packed fruit snacks and granola bars.

My Experiences with Kodak Ektar 100 - Casual Photophile

When you say that one recipe or another is not exactly like the film, I think you may be overthinking this. This strategy often would yield lovely shots with blacked out shadows leaving me regretting not applying layers of graduated ND filters. These wet kits are a touch more expensive but the final negatives always turned out with better color balance. The shot of Shanghai Library in particular shows off the sharpness, especially in the windows on the right-hand side of the tower, and also that grain. Ektar is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a film that is fun, a little bit quirky, and colorful. This time we have pushed our film +1 stop and analyzed three main characteristics: color, grain and contrast.
