Set in Dorset, England 1966, "One Enchanted Evening" is a feel-good romance novel that would make you want to go there if you're like me, who hasnt been to the place; if only to experience rustic house hotels. Think: AirBnb in a mansion but with room service and professional/trained kitchen staff. This takes you through the nitty gritty bits of keeping one running in the 1960s when en suite rooms were yet an emerging trend. Published since 1995, her romance novels are set in modern-day England. She is the founder of the "Katie Fforde Bursary" for writers who have yet to secure a publishing contract. Katie was elected the twenty-fifteenth Chairman (2009-2011) of the Romantic Novelists' Association. She is delighted to have been chosen as Chair of the Romantic Novelists' Association and says, "Catherine Jones was a wonderful chair and she's a very tough act to follow. Catherine Rose Gordon-Cumming was born 27 September 1952 in England, U One Enchanted Evening is a literary hug that filled me with a comforting warmth and made me crave for more.' Without a doubt, Meg is definitely the one who was destined for a future in food. Creating beautiful dishes at the cookery school, she also appeared in A Wedding in Provence with a showstopper cake that proved to be far superior to anything that a local pâtissier could produce.

Will their differences be a recipe for disaster, or will they prove to have all the ingredients for a happy ever after? Meg is such an optimistic and enthusiastic heroine. Though Justin, is admittedly not my favorite. He pops around, here and there, and I kinda wish we could get into his head, (I understand why we can't). He can be frustrating, but he makes up to it, almost like-- pound for pound. He does grow on you and it does pay off in the end,..eventually. Meg has always wanted to be a professional cook; she has an internship set up in France, but it isn’t time to go yet and restaurants are still generally a man’s world where women aren’t welcome. She gets a call to help her mother who is running the beautiful Nightingale Woods Hotel in Dorset and urgently needs a cook. While helping her mother she meets Justin, the owner's son, a chef himself who isn’t happy having a woman in his kitchen!

The characters in One Enchanted Evening are fantastic - each one is unique and lovable in their own way. I especially adored Ambrosine - she has such a big heart that you can't help but root for her throughout the novel. Her relationship with Meg was delightful and very special which made the story even better and it was wonderful to catch up with characters from past books. What I thoroughly loved about this story was the twist though, especially as it involved my favourite character. It added a little bit of mystery to the book, and it wove beautifully through the romance without seeming like a side quest. Meg falls in love with the hotel, despite the fact it needs some work doing on it, none of the rooms have bathrooms, the decor is dated. But it’s not long before Meg starts having ideas as to what they can do to get more visitors, because close by is a hotel with much more updated facilities. Can they keep the hotel running or will it have to be sold? Then there is Meg and Justin could there be another romance or not? I have to give a special mention to Ambrosine. I could have happily sat beside her for hours as she regaled me with her life stories *sighs*. One Enchanted evening is everything you need in a novel when the weather outside demands you snuggle under a blanket with a good book .'

Meg has a Job offer in France but berms offered one in hotel 🛏 But can she leave all her long standing behind: Alexander and her partner Antoine, Lizzy and Vanessa all old friends also David and Russell want to put on This really is a problem for me because it could have been mentioned that it was Book 3 in a series, even though it could and should be a standalone story – and the story does stand up very well by itself. Or it would if it didn't fall down on the number of characters. I first met Meg when I read A Wedding in the Country. She was one of a group of three young women who attended a London cookery school aimed at teaching the culinary arts to young ladies. Having already followed the stories of the other two in the previous books in this loose series, I was delighted to learn more about Meg. When she gets a call from her mother asking for her help, she puts her plans on hold to help out in the kitchens of the shabby, but delightful country house hotel, Nightingale Woods. In the absence of the hotel's part owner Andrew, Meg's mother Louise has been left in charge, but things are not going well in the catering department. Just as Meg arrives, the chef who has caused all the trouble walks out, and she suddenly finds herself running a kitchen sooner than she has anticipated. However, Meg is always up for a challenge, and despite the scary prospect of an impending gala dinner, she gets down to work.

The romance bit was also frustrating because I'm not such a fan of witholding information til the very end, so I didn't appreciate that we actually confirmed from Justin that he WAS with Laura, already quite near the end. Even with his feelings, it was always other people who spoke for him. I'm not a fan of that at all. because he was so silent about things, not clarifying his actions, I felt so confused for Meg. If you love feel good romances and you haven’t read any of Katie’s books yet then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? She’s a national treasure at this point. We love Katie. I could go on and on about how great she is so please just go and grab some of her books so you can love her writing too. This is 1966 and a pivotal point in history when life is gradually opening up with new opportunities for women. Meg comes across attitudes to her working in a professional kitchen that seem alien to us now. In some ways women’s lives have changed a lot for the better, but then again there is always room for improvement. Infuriated, Meg is determined to keep her place in the kitchen and sparks begin to fly. The magical theatrical evening that the hotel have been planning could now be ruined. I have read a couple of Katie Fforde books before and really enjoyed them and this one didn’t disappoint either. A beautiful setting at Nightingale Woods Hotel in Dorset, one of my favourite places. The story is set in the 1960’s and followed Meg’s story.
