I have found that the lights on the machine often flash yellow and I have to turn it on and off a few times to get it to work. But getting a stand alone grinder with the Dedica would – depending on the grinder, of course – potentially give you more control over the grind than with the Barista Express, as the Barista Express is limited in grind adjustments. I suspect it may just be a program that blasts a smaller amount of water at the puck of coffee at full pressure, then pausing before continuing.
