Thanks to in-house software and hardware development the DDJ-RX offers tight integration with low latency possible with modest system requirements enable the RX to deliver a super responsive experience. Setting up is a case of plugging in the power and your powered speakers, and adding a music source, typically a library of music prepared in Rekordbox and brought with you on USB. (You can also plug in an iOS or Android device via USB should you have Rekordbox-prepared music on that, or indeed – and a little confusingly if you’re new to all of this and trying to work out the difference between these systems! – a laptop that contains your Rekordbox library.)

I have been forced to use Rekordbox at work, at first I hated it, but I have grown accustomed to it and its most redeeming feature is the lightness on PC load, that aside, to answer your question on playlists/Drives Rekordbox DJhas arrived; the new software released by Pioneer DJ is just what Rekordbox users have been waiting for. Rekordbox DJ uses one library so a set can be prepped and played straight from a laptop and used with a controller or export the same library to a USB device ready to use on the industry standard CDJ-2000 Nexus players. And another final point, trying to be really clever last year, I got a thunderbolt drive by La Cie, these DO NOT work with Rekordbox. They mount to the computer in a different way than USB and so their mount point changes, meaning your playlists will disappear or lose their path. Worth more trouble and really no need to have that kind of speed for audio, now I use it for VJing and Serato It’s when you browse your library that the feeling falls apart a bit. Now don’t get me wrong, browsing is pretty good, and its shortcomings are not a deal-breaker, but one of the big strengths of software DJing is that browsing and searching your music – and crucially, using a Qwerty keyboard – are easy. But with no keyboard here, and no touchscreen version of it like on the XDJ-1000, you have to resort to entering search words letter-by-letter, in the excruciating “TV remote control” style: This is a no-go for me. Can you really hear the difference in sound quality of analog vinyl record being played on SL1200 and fed to:

A couple we’ve already mentioned: There’s the vinyl speed behaviour (you can have the vinyl slow down / start up knob affect either of those features or both by setting your choice here), and I’ve also spoken of the line fader curve setting here, which is a nice touch. Is this unit in any way DVS compatible/expandable? I would like the have the option to use timecode vinyl on the SLs to control the software (particularly Serato DJ) and mp3s through this unit. Controller DJs reading this and comparing features may well be realising at this point that a lot of this stuff is missing from most DJ controllers, even more expensive ones; even DJs who are used to Pioneer DJ booth mixers will notice that really, the only major thing missing here from such gear (apart from four mixer channels, of course) is a “split cue” for the headphones output. The mixer The XDJ-RX comes with a two-channel mixer that also works standalone, meaning you can plug your CDJs or turntables and use them as you would with a normal hardware mixer. XDJ-RX with a pair or 1200s – this will give me standalone unit in rekordbox ecosystem (great to get used to Pioneer’s club standard DJM/CDJ system) and also standalone mixer for playing analog vinyls when I want to. I am not sure about DVS and Serato DJ (digital DJing) compatibility with this.

First Impressions / Setting up Based on the popular DDJ-SX Pioneer DJ’s first controller for the new Rekordbox DJ software has a lot to prove, it certainly looks the part, but can it deliver? First impressions and setting up The bottom line for me was that my mixes on the Traktor s4 were better, more creative and easier than this more expensive Pioneer unit. Have the ability to learn at home, on this gear the rekordbox system/DJM CDJ club standard way of playing – so that when I go to DJ in a club I will not shit my pants 🙂The tempo faders are long and precise, making for easy beatmatching similar to Pioneers CDJ / XDJ players. The overall sensation of mixing and performing on the DDJ-RX is that you can trust it and let rip! Road test – live on the radio You get a free rekordbox dj licence key bundled with this controller. Simply activate your licence key for our DJ software, connect the controller and start DJing. Thank you very much and sorry for writing so much. 1. I am just passionate about it as hell. 2. I am about to spend a lot of money on my new rig (used to have DDJ-SZ but sold it as I was moving 10000 kms) so wanna be sure I am making an informed decision.

Xone:43C (with built in sound card) + two 1200s. This will give me fully analog sound quality with playing vinyls on 1200s as the this mixer is fully analog – although I am still not sure if this is rule of thumb that analog mixer sound better then digital ones. This will also give me the ability to use it in ‘digital DJing’ with Serato DJ so it would be very similar to using DDJ-SZ right? (especially after adding Xone K1 or K2). This will also give me full DVS control which is great. The biggest downside of this is it gives me no taste and the ability to get used to rekordbox ecosystem of club standard’s DJM/CDJ setup AT ALL. When I will start playing in a club with DJM/CDJs the learning curve from this setup that I will have used at home will be steep. The Pioneer DDJ-RX DJ Controller is designed with no quality compromised. At first glance it is similar to its big brother, the famous SX, however the DDJ-RX features new, superb components tailored to provide DJs with an intuitive rekordbox dj experience.
