The Prisoner is all action! I read this book in a span of 24 hours I think. It’s short and suspenseful and Paris is not afraid to kill off characters. Under my hood, my eyes dart, looking for a way out of this nightmare. Think, Amelie, think! But my mind is paralyzed. What is this? Who are they? Ten years later Finn is engaged to Layla’s sister, Ellen. Their shared grief over what happened to Layla drew them close and now they intend to remain together. Still, there’s something about Ellen that Finn has never fully understood. His heart wants to believe that she is the one for him...even though a sixth sense tells him not to trust her. Thank you to NetGalley, B.A. Paris, and St. Martin’s Press for my advanced reader’s copy of The Prisoner, publishing November 1, 2022!

In true B.A. Paris style, The Prisoner is a gripping survival story, a twisted tale of love and at its dark heart a thriller to keep you up all night. With all of this being said, it was suspenseful and it did keep me fairly engaged, but I have read all of B.A. Paris's works and when I see her name on a cover, I get excited. When Amelie was a teenager, her father passed away after struggling with an illness. She had already lost her mother, so suddenly found herself alone. There are a couple of neat little twists here, but most of this is confined to the first half of the story. Understanding what’s happened to Amelie and why is really the driving force for you to keep reading but once the past catches up to the present, there’s not much else to cling to.Overall it's not a terrible book though. The storyline is entertaining and kept my interest throughout. Fans of this author's other books should really enjoy this latest offering. Claustrophobic, menacing and relentlessly tense, this is a fiendishly plotted thriller with a great central twist' SARAH VAUGHAN Soon she is moving up in the world and it's through a new job that she meets Ned Hawthorpe, a business man, technically her new boss and the heir to a vast fortune.

It really pains me to have to write yet another (The Dilemma) less than raving review of one of Paris' books. I really enjoyed this author's debut, and enjoyed her follow-up, The Breakdown, even more so, but then something happened and her subsequent releases have left a lot to be desired. I imagine him holding a copy of today’s newspaper as he stares at a camera, his eyes wide with fear. Ned isn’t the bravest of men. This is my 6th BA Paris novel and also my least favourite. Yes, it ranks below the much-panned The Dilemma. I don't think The Prisoner is slow, boring or badly written at all. I actually started out liking it so imagine my own horror when I realised it would be a 1-star read for me. 1 stars and BA Paris just don't exist in the same world... until now. So far I’ve read B.A. Paris’ The Breakdown and The Dilemma. I enjoyed both of those but I think I liked this one better! However, the second half of the book won me over, as the pace increases significantly due to the shorter chapters, and the answers I needed were discovered.

Dark, daring and irresistible. B.A. Paris takes a clever, sinister survival story and further elevates it with her trademark style and heart. Truly impossible to put down' CHRIS WHITAKER Perhaps my expectations were set too high for this title, and I look forward to listening to this author's future releases. A] thrill-stuffed novel about a posh London gated community that’s a hotbed of secrets and lies."— The Washington Post Dark and compulsive ... B.A. Paris again conjures up the tense claustrophobia of BEHIND CLOSED DOORS and delivers yet another brilliant, unputdownable read' GILLY MACMILLAN There's plenty of guessing and twists in this story of obsession that will leave readers wondering who to trust."— Parkersburg News and SentinelB.A. Paris was born in Surrey, England, in 1958 to a French mother and Irish father. She is the third of 6 children, including 4 brothers and a sister. After completing her education, she moved to France, where she worked as a trader in an international bank in Paris for several years. During this time, she met her husband, with whom she now has 5 daughters. They eventually left the world of finance to set up a language school together. I think we all have fears of being kidnapped. Or maybe just fears of the dark or waking up in a dark room. Is that just me? Cool. One thing that I appreciated about this book was the fact that Amelie was strong. A lot of times, women (as written in situations like this) will get whiney. Yes, there were times when that happened, but I also think that she was stronger more than she was whiney.
