Now, in one dazzling photograph after another, he portrays dancers--ages 2 through 18--in ordinary and extraordinary pursuits, from hanging with friends to taking selfies, from leaping for joy to feeling left out. Everything else is exactly the same - Maddy, the narrator, is the daughter of a famous former ballerina and a renowned ballet choreographer.

This soul-stirring novel about the Abbouds, an Arab American family, puts faces and names to the victims of violence and persecution in Jerusalem today. Not as good as Dancers Among Us since the kids don’t have as much diversity in their abilities as their adult counterparts, but it’s still a fun book with a quite a few interesting images. Jean Ure understands exactly what makes ballet such an all-consuming passion for young dancers and conveys that excitement perfectly in Born to Dance, the first in a new series. The characters were well portrayed and I love how Maddy realises she can be a bit blunt and thought she contrasted well with the more introverted Caitlin. I love how realistic parts of this are—that Maddy is kind of headstrong and blunt and she tries to rein herself in but can't always; that she enjoys ballet but also wants to try other things; that Caitlyn has natural talent, but she isn't immediate the Best Dancer Anyone's Ever Seen.
