About this deal

Unfortunately, he decides to do this by framing Batman for his murder, resulting in the erroneous activation of Failsafe. In our second arc with [artist Mike Hawthorne], we’re experiencing a Gotham that doesn’t have a Batman, and it’s just lousy in different ways mythos, to the actual extent that the architect of the only credible plan to kill Batman is Batman himself?

Zdarsky's story also references previous stories where Batman's contingency plans puts him at odds with his friends.

It’s kind of a boring read, but at least Batman is still being a hero by actively trying to solve problems. But the reason I’m openly talking about it is because I expect this to be a big turnoff for a lot of readers, and I want people to be aware. By integrating all of Batman's continuities, Morrison created a character who has all that experience to fall back on. Having never picked up the Tynion Batman run before this cause I thought Tom King made a fenomeal work and "ending of the character". com, the series received generally favorable ratings, with a Comicscore Index of 75 based on 114 ratings from critics.

While it could be caution after what happened to them, Failsafe correctly concludes Arthur is likely sheltering Bruce and sets sail for Atlantis. Life can turn out to be a game with devastating consequences without exploring worse-case scenarios and elaborating contingency plans. The story is weak; the villain is uninteresting; nothing’s really at stake for Batman; and the ending feels unearned.

For Want Of A Nail: The second storyline sends Batman into an alternate Earth where Bruce Wayne never existed, where Gotham's defender is a Knight Templar Harvey Dent, who acts as judge, jury and executioner Judge Dredd-style. Usually when I read anything DC, it's whatever strikes my fancy because I don't follow DC religiously. Bruce Wayne decides to leave Master Kirigi's training after Master Kirigi plans to teach the students a technique that will kill people in one hit, as well as the new students being assassin's apprentices. Failsafe may be an unstoppable murderous machine, but it's ultimately just following its programming - it genuinely believes that Batman has become a danger and seeks to eliminate him for the good of the world.

Batman has battled all manner of criminals, monsters, and super-villains, but nothing could have prepared him for what’s coming with Failsafe, an unstoppable foe that can outfight and outthink the Dark Knight—could this all be connected to a dark secret in Bruce Wayne’s past? And in the backup, there’s chaos in Gotham as the underworld fights over one of its crown jewels… and Selina Kyle is caught in the middle.

To me it reads like the creative team has no idea how to end this conflict, so they choose the most lazy way out, without any payoff. While walking with Bruce, they find a corpse that has red markings, and see that Zatara was talking to a demon name Shantoz.A conversation between Batman and Zur made it clear that the two personalities were now at odds with one another, and Batman would do his best to contain Zur.
