About this deal

It’s a mixed bag of a presentation, which doesn’t quite hold up to close scrutiny, but still gets the job done and likely remains faithful to the source material. There's reason that 'Dark Places' originally debuted On Demand, but frankly I'm surprised that it didn't debut on Redbox: the place many bad movies begin and end. Their club isn't dedicated to killing, but to studying famous killings and the wackos responsible for them. The last half or quarter had no real depth as to where or why everything went the way it did and what we do find out isn't plausible and flimsy - no spoiler alerts but the massacre was pointless and so were the final reveals. As expected, Fincher's direction, the performances by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, and the gorgeous cinematography were fantastic – but none of that would have been possible without the source material. Legendary British stars Christopher Lee (Dracula Prince of Darkness, The Wicker Man, The Man with the Golden Gun), Joan Collins (Tales from the Crypt, The Stud, Dynasty) and Herbert Lom (The Phantom of the Opera, Mark of the Devil, Revenge of the Pink Panther) get together in a grisly tale of hidden loot in a haunted house. A lame brother watches his family get murdered by is girlfriend and insurance scam gone wrong by his mother.Big fan of early 70s uk horror, especially Amicus productions output, but 'Dark Places' - which I hoped might live up to that kind of standard - falls totally flat.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray director Gilles Paquet-Brenner's film Dark Places (2015), starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Charlize Theron, Christina Hendricks, Nicholas Hoult, and Drea de Matteo. Dark Places is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Severin Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1. Theron plays an angry character who wants nothing to do with the world, yet wouldn't have a roof over her head without it. Since adulthood, she has lived as a financially free hoarding hermit shut-in, paying for this wasteful and inglorious lifestyle with the royalties from her ghost-written book about the family massacre. The score by electronic composer BT is a valiant effort, often elevating the proceedings, and driving the tension even when the narrative and pacing works against this, whilst also allowing for further surround action, and even some LFE accompaniment, which is itself also particularly evident during the club sequences.Upon popping the disc into your player, you're forced to watch an FBI warning and a Lionsgate reel prior to skippable trailers for 'Room,' 'The Witch,' 'The Vatican Tapes,' ' Ex Machina' and ' A Most Violent Year. Edward is increasingly affected by the estate's long-dead former residents, descending into madness and putting everyone in the house in danger. It revolves around flat one-dimensional characters, stereotypes, preposterous ideas and lucky coincidences. accompaniment, with clear promotion of the dialogue throughout the piece (apart from, funnily enough, the opening whisper), prioritised across the front and centre channels, whilst effects – which are well-utilised to craft a natural background atmosphere – are sharply disseminated across the surrounds.

We quickly learn about what has brought her to this point in her depressing life: as a child, her sisters and hard-working single mother (Hendricks) were murdered in their secluded farmhouse. Now, twenty-five years later, Libby discovers shocking evidence that Ben may be innocent-and the real killer is still at large. he offers her money to actively participate in re-living the grizzly experience and helping discover the clues that will prove his suspected innocence. At Kill Club, loud bassy music thumps and echoes in a way that you'd expect it to sound in that setting; however, other aspects of the music mixing tarnishes the audio quality. But yet another amateur studio that believes it's perfectly reasonable to butcher the original aspect ratio for the sake of 'cool' Blu-Ray widescreen. On 27th February 2023, Nucleus Films will release the shocking 1970s horror film Dark Places on Blu-ray. Black levels are consistently strong – but never crushed – creating a tension from the uncertainty of what lies within the shadows.
