About this deal

You know film noir when you see it: the shadowed setting; the cynical detective; the femme fatale; and the twist of fate.

But I think trying to force in too many secrets meant a lot of the storylines fell short of entertaining because they weren't padded out. However, a journey into the mist fills the girls with a sense of foreboding when they meet Brianna, the lady in green and Brauna, the lady in blue respectively. I read When I Was Ten by Fiona Cummins last year and rated it one of my top books of the year, so was excited to give this one a go.Piper, Gray and teenage twins Riva and Artie have, it seems - to Piper's friend and neighbour Julianne, and subsequently to the police - disappeared into thin air. They set out to find what happened to the Holden family and why Julianne seems a bit too eager to help them. What I love about this authors writing is the way the characters live on the page, in this case we have a deeply disturbing group dynamic going on that makes Into The Dark a classic page turner with bite.

Into this bizarre opener comes an outsider, Saul Anguish, looking for respite, a reprieve or just a chance of resurrection as Midtown’s newest policeman. Julianne arrives early one morning for her weekly run with Piper Holden, but there is no answer when she knocks. Fiona Cummins is an award-winning former Daily Mirror showbusiness journalist and a graduate of the Faber Academy Writing A Novel course. Now I don’t think I’ve hidden the fact that I love the authors first ‘series’ surrounding The Collector. Seawings, in Midtown-on-Sea, a beautiful albeit over the top art-deco home is the setting for Piper, Gray, Riva and Artie Holden. There are things you cannot see, things you cannot know, that will make you doubt the ones closest to you. If you can’t see the next sentence yet, go back to an earlier point of the book and move forward, adding and revising, until you’ve built up momentum to vault you past the white space.

It engages, entertains, and enlightens to show how the entire spectrum of classic movies, movie history, and movie-making touches us all and influences how wEverything unravels pretty bluntly as the story jumps around so no mystery ever lasts for long, and some of the 'big reveal's at the end of chapters had me thinking, 'am I supposed to be shocked by that? What ensues is a unexpected series of twists as we learn the truth of what happened to the Holden family. I think the authors previous book just left such a high bar for me that it would never have been met! I feel I should point out that the descriptions of the murders were quite graphic, not Karin Slaughter intensity level, but getting up there. Serene Conneeley's magical and very intoxicating new novel Into the Dark has me under its spell - I relish every shiver Carlie's descent into darkness is giving me.

I didn't like the families, and it became apparent pretty early what had happened with the main mystery. A autora deixa claro que o livro não tem um felizes para sempre lá no avisos de gatilhos, então eu fui já sabendo disso e não me decepcionei, já que o final desse livro parecia certo para esse casal. This is told from two timelines, before and after the disappearance and from several peoples perspectives. If you haven’t read Fiona Cummins other books I highly recommend them including When I Was Ten that is a doozy of a standalone. Piper was always complaining that the bottom tier of the chandelier hung too low, especially as she was so tall.
